Wobbel boards

Looking for something for DDs birthday (she will be 3) and I’m considering a wobbel board. DH isn’t keen as it’s a lot of money for a piece of wood. Anyone who owns one, are they worth the money? Would you consider a cheaper alternative?

I have 2 dc, aged 1 and a half and 7. They both love it and use it constantly. It seems to be the thing they use to fidget when they just can't stay still. The 7 year old chats to me while rocking on it side to side or sitting on it rocking. The little one loves it too, and uses it just as much.

SleepingMammoth · 30/01/2021 22:00

We have one that was bought about 3 years ago but is now in the loft!

It did get some use but we just don't have space for everything and there were other things that were used more!

Like a PP mentioned, they're pretty versatile. Wobbling, rocking, bridges for climbing, bridges for cars, if you prop one end on the sofa it becomes a slide etc

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles thankfully not anything to do with Rolf Harris. Sadly though too many men like to dress like Jimmy Savile.

Whatbookisthis · 30/01/2021 22:01

We’ve got the smallest one (‘starter’ size) and my 3.5yo and nearly 9yo use it daily for so many things. And as someone else said they’re good for stretching backs!

Snowbeau · 30/01/2021 22:04

We also eat the mainstream vegetables here too :)

ShinyGreenElephant · 30/01/2021 22:05

My DD got one for her 2nd bday and its used most days - at the moment its a bridge under a big train setup which I'm hoping won't last much longer as I love stretching my back on it! Also used for balancing, rocking, seesaw, dolls bed, slide, ball ramp, a rather dangerous addition to her pikler... the list goes on. Sure a cheaper one would be just as good but I struggled to find a cheap version tbh

PurpleGoose · 30/01/2021 22:06

@GlamourBear I've paused reading the thread to reply (so don't know someone else has already) Radishes are a mainstream vegetable 😊

baffledcoconut · 30/01/2021 22:11

It seems there are quite a few radish lovers here.

baffledcoconut · 30/01/2021 22:11

@SleepingMammoth Wink

PurpleGoose · 30/01/2021 22:12

@heytigertea We got one in July - standard size, no felt. It's been used everyday by my now 4 and nearly 2 year old. Sometimes it's used briefly for 5-10mins other times it's in use most of the day.

Today it has been used by both to wobble, as a bridge, as a cave for animals, as pride rock (Lion King obsessed), as a slide, to stretch my husband's back, for general clambering and to complete some of the wobble cards (you can download them for free and mine love them)

Imohsotired · 30/01/2021 22:14

We have a wobbel and an arch with a ramp - both well loved. I think it's a fab present!

Also, this is the first time I've seen wankel outside the BP facebook group!

DartmoorDoughnut · 30/01/2021 22:18

@baffledcoconut @GlamourBear @PurpleGoose @Snowbeau radishes all round Grin

Tiquismiquis · 30/01/2021 22:19

I’m really undecided about a wobble board. I like the idea but It seems a bit random whether children love it or completely ignore it and if you get the latter, it’s an expensive, big thing to have lying around.

Duckduckduck123 · 30/01/2021 22:30

We too are wanklers 😋

GlamourBear · 31/01/2021 06:54

@baffledcoconut I'd say my favourite would have to be the radish. A spectacular mainstream vegetable!!

GlamourBear · 31/01/2021 06:57

Hello to all the mainstream vegetable loving wanklers Wink I love BP spotting in other groups and forums Smile

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I thought a wobbel board is what was Rolf Harris used to play 'Tie Me Kangeroo Down, Sport'. I'm guessing it must be something else... Confused
Yep. Me too!
SinkGirl · 31/01/2021 08:21

I bought a cheaper version (wooden, full size) from Amazon.

Currently residing under our sofa as the twins have no interest.

Miralice · 31/01/2021 08:35

We love our wobble board, a very heavy wooden one, great quality and felt backing. It's used to wobble on, but also as bridge, to lie on and read, as a dolls bed, to build with bricks on, a slide, a ramp for cars and balls or on its side as a shop, a puppet theater,....the possibilities are endless. Don't tell the kids what to do with it, just leave it in the room and let them get on with it.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 31/01/2021 08:57

If you want something a bit cheaper then the Moluk Bilibo (the plastic bowl things that look like a Koopa shell) is fun but probably less versatile.

We asked family to chip in for a pikler triangle and slide for DS’s second birthday last year. It was a godsend in the first lockdown when playgrounds were closed. I am thinking of getting him a wobbel board for his third birthday; he is hyper mobile and would benefit from it as physio.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 31/01/2021 11:28

@AaronPurr you're right, I've gone back and checked and its £22, still reasonable in my opinion though :) link: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07K6GQ5N5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

BullshitVivienne · 31/01/2021 11:31

Totally different thing.

Ah that's not what I had in mind. I was thinking you meant one of these

Mainstream vegetable based rotary engines are also acknowledged in this house.
