Bras are uncomfortable

Is it me or are bras so uncomfortable?

I've spent a fortune trying to find the right bra, but alas, nothing.

Can anyone suggest any comfortable, push up bra?
Im 34 underneath, 42 on the fullest part, and 45 at 90 degrees and probably bell/East West. Every website gives me a different size, from 34FF to 30H and 38G.

Sorry if this is the wrong place I couldn't work out where to put it!!

How thick is the band under the Molke ones? I'm a 30HH and I'd like a bralette for WFH. I looked at M&S ones but there's almost no support underneath and the cup size is inaccurate.

Callingallbutterflies · 30/01/2021 14:26

M&S flexi fit. Non wired. No lace. Smoothing. Supportive but comfortable. Bralet/sleep bra available too. Only bras I can wear all day.

midgedude · 30/01/2021 14:27

Are they hot?

I am menopausal, last summer heat was horrific but the bra not noticeably hot. avoided the aweful heat rash I used to get

Fallsballs · 30/01/2021 14:30

I ordered the same one @yeOldeTrout ! I’ll give an update too if anyone is interested in the intrepid molke explorers.

alienspiderbee · 30/01/2021 14:33

Molke are absolutely useless for me, I was sceptical to begin with but ordered a couple of sizes and they just totally didn't fit. Not surprising really when they recommend the same size whether you are a 30a or a 30e but people raved about them so thought it was worth trying

midgedude · 30/01/2021 14:35

They do seem to be the marmite of the bra world !

thecatsthecats · 30/01/2021 14:42

I'm wearing a Curvy Kate Unwind wireless bra. At least, I know I am because I put it on, but it doesn't feel like I'm wearing one.

I'm firmly of the belief that most bras are obsessed with sticking your boobs in some man-pleasing position and keeping them there. When in fact gentle and natural movement is better for them and for you.

I think it gives great support whilst making it look like my J cups just naturally sit at the top of my chest.

TerriblyTiiiired · 30/01/2021 15:22

@Callingallbutterflies

The flexifit looks promising! I might order a couple to try on. Thanks.

Fallsballs · 30/01/2021 15:23

I liked the idea of a Spanx bra but I can’t find any that go up to the larger cup sizes and it’s mainly on American sites.

yeOldeTrout · 04/02/2021 19:44

@Fallsballs, did your Molke unicorn fest arrive -- and did you like it?

It was a challenge to get it on, to pull it over my boobs. I seriously worried I might rip the seams in the effort. Then there was a lot more lift then I expected (tbf, I needed to shorten shoulder straps on my old bras). Snug overall. Boobs not quite in my face just closer than usual to face (and together). Plenty support for D cup.

I wore it for a while but think on balance... not for me. If I only paid £15 I'd persevere, but for £40, I want to like it a lot . I want to forget I'm wearing it & I didn't forget. I think it might suit people without brawny shoulders (not me). Or larger size maybe, but I know that's controversial to suggest on MN.

I ordered same day & then received today also a Rai seamless sport bra -- this is comfy enough, I forget I have it on. And only £21.

I still need a bra that clips on so I can take it off without disrobing in cold weather, though. On the hunt...

Tuscadero · 04/02/2021 19:48

@Dustyboots

I haven't worn a bra for 6 years now. God it was so liberating when I stopped wearing one.

I'd never put one on again. Why are girls/women expected to wear these bloody things? They're like the modern day version of corsets.

I hate the assumption that all women find bras uncomfortable. I don't! I'm infinitely more comfortable going about my day in a bra than without one.
Tuscadero · 04/02/2021 19:49

Ah, old(ish) thread.

I do like bras though Smile

BeautifulBirds · 04/02/2021 20:24

I like wearing a bra. I like my boobs to be pushed together and up! Not for a man to oggle but just cos that's how I like my boobs.

But I can't find a comfy bra.

I can't even find a bra that does this.

Most bras for larger boobs seem to be un- padded and not push up. Surely bigger boobs need more support and oomph!!

Yanbu, bras are shit. I've started just wearing sports bras all the time and I'm happier for it.

I'm a 30 D and in Germany this is deemed a ridiculous and improbable size. Everything starts at 34 unless you feel like paying mega prices which I'm not doing online. There was an old lady bra shop in town, with fierce old lady shop assistants (who were actually lovely and could guess your size from looking at you) that I used to be able to get nice bras at but it closed in the first lockdown.

Imagine if men wore bras - the choice would be phenomenal Grin

BeautifulBirds · 04/02/2021 22:03

This is true. And where is the support for the side breast tissue?!

OP posts:
Fallsballs · 04/02/2021 22:15

@yeOldeTrout yes I got mine yesterday and I wore it so I can’t return it. This was accidental. I tried it on, thought what the fuck, that’s going back and then the door went and I had to go out quickly. I was wearing a baggy sweatshirt and coat so it was ok.

So the molke held them up (g) but my back and shoulders were sore after a while and the side profile ain’t pretty. Looked like I’d a small animal stuffed up there.

I didn’t have excessive problems getting it on or off but I won’t probably wear it again. It will go in the drawer with the other overpriced mistakes.
Such a shame.

I used to like wearing bras pre children until mine grew and have stayed massive. I have to wear a bra now or I’m a hazard. Jeez it shouldn’t be this difficult. We need to get a structural engineer onboard to design one for us ?!

Fallsballs · 04/02/2021 22:19

@yeOldeTrout meant to ask does the Rai one give a mono boob ? And where do you get it at £21 if you don’t mind me asking.

Caspah · 04/02/2021 22:28

No recommendations for bras, as I avoid them if I possibly can - I hate the restriction and the discomfort. I have moles on my bra line. However, several years ago I had terrible discomfort between the top of my thighs after a long walk in a hot country. This led to me researching how to prevent that, which then led me to anti-chafing creams (usually used by cyclists). If I have to wear a bra I use Lanacame(?) under the bra cups, and it prevents painful rubbing. Probably coincidence, but the mole-type things in that area have very much diminished.

IwillrunIwillfly · 04/02/2021 22:41

I would add to those that suggested the boob or bust measuring tool. They have a very helpful Facebook page too where you can post for a fit check if you're not sure about the fit. Most women are wearing a band too big with cups too small!
When you have your size, I would recommend getting a bra from a proper bra maker like Freya, panache or elomi. I was amazed at the difference in support a good quality bra made compared to the cheap asda ones I used to wear! Down side is they cost more, but I was buying so many cheap ones as they were never comfy so I would chuck them out sonits worked about the same over a few months for me!

yeOldeTrout · 04/02/2021 22:43

Rai bra here for £21.
Also in reddish & blue. Limited sizes available, I suppose.

No mono boob with Rai. I felt like I got monoboob from the Molke.... I have a very wide chest (not big boobs, just lots of air space between the boobs on chest). The Rai felt Huge when I pulled it out of packaging next to the Molke. The Molke felt like it impeded breathing, if I'm honest. I've had tight bras give me heartburn but didn't wear Molke long enough to test that. Just grateful I didn't rip the seams.

Try selling the Molke on Ebay if you think you can't return it?
I'm seeing used Molke bras sold recently on Ebay for £20-£34.

Theres a molke buy/swap/sell page on Facebook. They tend to sell for a reasonable amount on there, won't get you all your money back but better than nothing!

Fallsballs · 04/02/2021 22:56

Thanks @yeOldeTrout I never thought of ebay. I’ll check out the Rai too.
I normally wear Elomi and in better times posh French ones at £90 +
But everything feels uncomfortable now I’ve had a break during lockdown.

Slightlyunhinged · 04/02/2021 22:58

I had given up wearing bras because I hadn't been able to find one that fits properly, not since my teens (and I'm sixty now!). I'm a larger lady with small breasts. All the manufacturers seem to think that if you are a large woman then you have huge breasts. Then off the back of a similar thread to this, I tried a sloggi bralet and I haven't looked back since. They don't push up or make the little I have look bigger, but they do fit!

calamityjam · 04/02/2021 23:30

I was so sick of bras. I actually got a lovely one from Amazon but even with hand washing the wires popped out. I tried loads of brands but they were all uncomfortable. Then I thought I'd try a bralet. My grandma wore them when she was in her 80s. Oh well I'm 42 and single so nobody to impress. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are. I am a 36 hh according to boob or bust. I swear I will never go back to regularly wearing proper bras. It creates a perfect silhouette and no boob shelf. Perfect support and incredibly comfortable. I'd post a pic but not sure if bra pics are allowed to be modelled here. I paid £15 for 2 off Amazon. Best furlough purchase by far
