To be annoyed by the Duchess of Cambridge's claim that home schooling is 'exhausting'

I accept that lockdown has had an impact on everyone to some extent, however privileged. But I can't help being irritated by this. Even if we accept that she is doing the home schooling herself without any help, I don't think there is any comparison between her situation and that of many other people. I am not saying lockdown isn't difficult for her.....but it is a million times harder if you are say a single parent, struggling with home schooling and a minimum wage job which you may lose any time, worried sick about your and DC future if this happens. And doing it in a poky flat instead of a vast country estate.

And I know she may be trying to show empathy with the rest of us. But TBH I would have much more respect for the royals if they would just acknowledge their privilege rather than claim common ground which just isn't there.

@Smncandles

Tone deaf ? Really ? Is the the worst you have to say re public support for Andrew with all we know about the FBI investigation ?
What else do you want me to say? She’s his mother. 🤷‍♀️
Smncandles · 31/01/2021 15:34

So now she's just another mother

Smncandles · 31/01/2021 15:36

She had Andrew in the car with her as the assembled journalists snapped away.
That was just a mother's love?

Petitmum · 31/01/2021 15:43

@Aquamarine1029

Ffs. She may be privileged, but she's still a human being and the mother of 3 young children. Why can't she express how she feels, too? Honestly, she can't win with some people.
Totally agree..........I wouldn't want to swap with her being under the microscope of the press 24/7. She can't win!!!
VinylDetective · 31/01/2021 15:47

@Smncandles

So now she's just another mother
Who said that? I said she’s his mother. It’s an indisputable fact.
Smncandles · 31/01/2021 15:50

Are you deliberately being obtuse vinyl?
As monarch she had Andrew beside her in her car, as part of a public appearance .

Livingtothefull · 31/01/2021 15:51

'Prince Andrew but look how he was pilloried for much the same - how come PC gets off so lightly?)

Because he didn’t fuck trafficked women perhaps? It’s nowhere near the same'.

I accept that Charles unlike Andrew has never been accused of an actual offence so the circumstances are different in that regard. But when someone in his position has a succession of paedophiles as close friends, confidants and mentors, is it not natural for eyebrows to be raised?

Like all RF members, Charles is above the law and never compelled to give an account of himself. For example, he refused to give a legal statement to the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse whose stated aim was to ensure that children get the care and protection from sexual abuse they need and deserve, now and in the future.’

This despite the following:

'Our remit is wide ranging, but as a statutory inquiry we have unique authority to compel both witnesses and any material we feel is necessary in order to investigate where institutions have let children down in the past'.
Charles REFUSES to comply with this. A statement would require him to swear an oath – and Charles' legal advisers state that the court couldn’t compel him to release a statement. Why is he above the law? Why would he not want to do all he can to support the inquiry? Does he have anything to hide?

It wasn’t a public appearance. They went to church.

Smncandles · 31/01/2021 15:56

Publicly went to church . With a bank of photographers

VinylDetective · 31/01/2021 16:08

Blame the paparazzi then. They were also photographed when they went out riding on private land. That wasn’t a public appearance either.

Smncandles · 31/01/2021 16:09

I'm afraid you really thing yourself up in knots in your efforts to defend the monarchy .
Was it 'tone deaf' or not ?

VinylDetective · 31/01/2021 16:10

Yes it was tone deaf. Are we done now? Because this is getting extremely tedious.

eddiemairswife · 31/01/2021 16:10

You can't blame the Queen or Prince Andrew for going to church, or for the photographers being there.

KeflavikAirport · 31/01/2021 16:13

Why should we even be interested what a vacuous appearing woman with no notable achievements to her name has to say on zoom anyway? And fucksake no she isn’t do important work in early childhood research, that’s an insult to actual researchers who are running themselves into the ground trying to keep the university system going.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 31/01/2021 17:09

Yes that’s a fair and accurate summation @KeflavikAirport

Livingtothefull · 31/01/2021 17:15

The Royal Family are above the law and are free to do exactly what suits them. There are numerous examples of this: the Queen's unquestioning and very public support of Andrew is obvious, despite his refusal to cooperate in the investigation into the serious allegations against him.

The general 'do as I say not as I do' lecturing from them on the environment and on specialist subjects they are unqualified to talk about.

In fairness to Kate, what she said may well have been overlooked if the RF as a whole were believed to be conscientious and above reproach; as it was, it came a cross as just another example of their 'let them eat cake' attitude.

Whoever happens to her lot over the years, they are guaranteed a top university place and money for life.

Meanwhile they can't let go of their nanny's hand at the park.

Smncandles · 31/01/2021 20:20

Park?
They have private acres .
Parks are for PR set ups

wardrobesandthebackofthem · 31/01/2021 20:21

No, I have personal experience of this one! Not saying more.

Smncandles · 31/01/2021 20:24

Of course you can't ...

HavelockVetinari · 31/01/2021 20:32

Ye know it's not misery top trumps? FFS, the poor woman. Just cause she has cash doesn't mean life becomes instantly wonderful. Do one.

Annabell80 · 31/01/2021 20:47

@BalloonSlayer

She was just trying to relate and be relatable.

Someone asked her how she was with maths. She said "Minus 5." She has an A Grade A level in Maths.

I suppose she could have said, "Fine thanks, I'm really good at Maths, actually," but just imagine the roasting she'd have got on here if she had!

I'd imagine having a Maths A level doesn't help at all trying to teach primary age children so perhaps in that sense she actually was being honest. She can't relate. It's not possible. Her world is so far away from most people's normal. She simply doesn't have the worries we do. Does she worry about the economy? I doubt it, she and her children will still be alright. Family getting ill? Maybe but I don't think her parents are especially old and they and the RF have the money for the absolute best care (which could make a difference). No worries about job, money or home, plenty of help with her children, lots of space for the children. TBF I wouldn't want her life but I doubt she's exhausted or stressed or anything else like that.
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 31/01/2021 21:43

Park? Don’t be silly they only mix with the proletariat when there’s a photo op
They have estates,with acres of land, a security corps. They don’t do the park
Kate doesn’t swing by St James park after a bit of monkey magic with the kids

RickiTarr · 31/01/2021 21:47

Of course they venture into Kensington Gardens, and I think there was some kerfuffle over pap shots taken in Battersea Park too.
