Men who falsely accuse women of rape

Hi, I am very sorry if this is not the right forum for this, but I've been interested for the last few days about men who falsely accuse women of rape. Someone I know recently told me that there is an alarming number of women who lose custody of their kids because their ex-husbands and ex-boyfriends falsely accused them of sexual violence. I cannot find any breakdown of who falsely accuses who, so I am going by the statistics that in both the USA and Britain that false rape accusations make up 2-5% of total accusations for any gender against any gender. She hasn't provided a source on men who falsely accuse women. I also remember reading from Karen Ingala Smith that men have a tendency to overestimate the violence they sustain and underestimate their contribution to the violence. Is what this person saying really true? Is there an epidemic of men falsely accusing women of sexual violence in an attempt to abuse the family court system?

By the way, I'm not an MRA. Tackling sexual violence against men is something that means a lot to me, because I was part of a student group who provided services to survivors of rape and sexual abuse in my university. Although I have not done this since graduating, I have been focused on advocating for better services for men sustaining abuse and rape, and I have donated to 1in6 before. These recent comments were very upsetting and I wanted to get a better sense of why she might have made them. Am I being unreasonable for doubting the veracity of her claims?

In your years of advocating for male survivors of sexual violence you’ll have learned that the overwhelming majority of sexual violence committed against men is committed by men.

It interests me why that’s not your focus.

And also seems unaware of the law in England and Wales for rape.

Which is unusual for someone with such a keen interest in the topic.

It is possible for women to be convicted of rape if they participate in or encourage gang rape

And it's vanishingly rare and doesn't explain the increase seen in the rape stats.

Unless anyone wants to have a crack at tracking all those female rapists from 2016 down in the news then I'm going to go with the most likely explanation is likely to be the true one.

That story is from 2001 how deep into Google did you have to go to find it?

And why when it's been flagged on the thread that women (cunty) can be done for rape when it's joint enterprise but it's rare.

Oh and the point here isn't that trans women are any more likely to be sex offenders.

The point here is that police forces around the country have been recording crimes according to self ID for some years, and when asked by FOI none of them could say why it was changed and hardly any had a date. They had rough dates that were some years ago.

This skews stats. In England and Wales rape requires a penis (apart from rare cases of joint enterprise). So we have something of a way of saying, hold on, why have these stats gone up so much.

Meanwhile, the press reports it unquestioningly (women are raping loads omg!). Which a. Gives ammo to MRA 'women do it too' types. And also obfuscates whether there's an issue. If loads of women are suddenly being done for joint enterprise then that's a worrying shift. Who are they, why did they do it? Are there any commonalities in these attacks. Etc etc. So we lose info as to whether this is a genuine change in female behaviour which would be a big deal and needs looking into. Or a handful of males self ID as female in which case it's not the same as male sex offenders are much more common.

In the drive to get self ID in, the baby is thrown out with the bathwater. Important statistical info is lost.
