.. and I'm ignoring him. He's "doing experiments in the spirit of halloween".
He's just been in to tell me he's found a "spirit burner", and after clarifying with him that he mustn't but my cognac in there ,
I've told him to read the instructions and to close the two doors between me and him!

Are you all listening for the explosions now?

Sounds like great fun. I think some supervision is called for though!

Well we've survived. He managed to get quite a lot of red food colouring all over, but apart from that no serious damage done ... I think!

What is the point him having a chemistry set if he never uses it? Surely a breakfast room is as good as any where? Would you want him experimenting in his bedroom where there are soft furnishings which might be flammable.

He needs supervison. As for dangerous chemicals there is nothing really dangerous in most chemistry sets. Obviously he would need to clear up any mess after experimenting.

DS loves his chemistry set. We have had to order fresh supplies for it. I always check he knows what he is doing and then leave him to it - and then have 45mins of him explaining what he did, how it worked, why it worked, etc etc
