For ten hours

slashlover · 28/01/2021 19:27

I've slept for 10 hours before without getting up to go to the toilet.

crabette · 28/01/2021 19:30

I'd easily do this! Strong bladder and definitely don't drink enough either. I'm early 30s and have been like this for years. I probably pee twice a day as normal.

ShalomToYouJackie · 28/01/2021 19:34

Do they feel otherwise well? Have they been drinking fluids?

Isn't it one of the signs of sepsis if you're not weeing?

iMatter · 28/01/2021 19:48

Not much point posting with so little information

Calmandmeasured1 · 28/01/2021 19:57

If male and still drinking but unable to pass water, they will get to the stage of being in severe pain. If this occurs, call 999 and a paramedic will insert a catheter to empty the bladder. They will then need to see an Urologist to determine the cause of the water retention.

noisenoisenoisenoise · 28/01/2021 19:59

I would worry and make them drink loads of water!

At the very least they're definitely dehydrated!

noisenoisenoisenoise · 28/01/2021 19:59

@DamnUserName21

It needs monitoring. Have they been holding it in deliberately? How much have they been drinking if awake? Bear in mind, people can 10 hours asleep and not urinate.
Yes but overnight we produce a hormone that slows urine production so it's not the same
Indecisive12 · 28/01/2021 20:03

I do it regularly but it’s when I’ve been busy and don’t drink enough. On its own not concerning, with other symptoms of being unwell and good fluid intake maybe.

AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 28/01/2021 20:04

When I was pregnant I had 2 wees per 24 hour period. I was horrendously sick and couldn't even keep water down but despite telling the midwife that she didn't have any concerns. I did so escalated it to the doctor who gave me anti emetics.

So it very much depends on context but I would say it's not normal as when I drink the recommended 2 litres a day I go for a wee about once an hour!

PurpleWh1teGreen · 28/01/2021 20:06

If they’re a nurse doing a 12 hour shift, perfectly normal.Grin

A young child or an older person with underlying illness, potentially less so, but it really would depend on the full picture. If you are concerned, it would be OK to ring 111 for advice.

DamnUserName21 · 28/01/2021 20:08

@noisenoisenoisenoise, OP hadn't clarified whether it was day or night when I posted.

The fact op noticed, and asked the person indicates that they're all awake which suggests day time

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/01/2021 20:16

Are they feeling unwell?

It can be a sign of sepsis

ElizaLaLa · 28/01/2021 20:18

How do you know their toilet habits?

DamnUserName21 · 28/01/2021 20:21

The fact op noticed, and asked the person indicates that they're all awake which suggests day time.

To you, maybe. OP gave no other details.
And lots of people do pee at night depending on their age, health factors, etc.

Thedogscollar · 28/01/2021 20:22

Often go over 12 hours on shift without being able to get to toilet. I'm late 50's so if I can do it a 20 something year old can. Confused

It's not a skill, you're just not drinking enough
Newmama29 · 28/01/2021 20:25

I’m mid 20s & a nurse & can sometimes go the 12hr shift without passing urine Shock there’s something in the job description about having a bladder (or pelvic floor) of steel Wink

RoomOfRequirement · 28/01/2021 20:28

Painful drip thread.

Living6767 · 28/01/2021 20:33

It’s about me I’m concerned that I don’t need to use the loo often. I’m otherwise healthy.

GracieLouFreebushh · 28/01/2021 20:34

I'm a nurse and when I'd do 14 hour shifts on the wards, I'd go all day without passing urine. Very busy and didn't drink enough.

luxxlisbon · 28/01/2021 20:35

Not really, surely most people go almost that every night when they go to sleep?

DamnUserName21 · 28/01/2021 20:35

Pun intended?!!? Grin
LindaEllen · 28/01/2021 20:36

I used to hate going at school, and sometimes if there was an activity after school it could be 10 hours since leaving the house that morning. I was always happy to go when I got home, but not bursting (I'd have gone at school if I was - just preferred not to .. those loos were disgusting!)

shouldistop · 28/01/2021 20:36

Well how much water do you drink?
