Holiday help!

I'm just looking for some advice, I have a holiday booked for 10th may (moved from last year) I really really do not want to go! My partner is suffering from long covid undergoing a lot of tests and scans. At the time of moving it we didn't need tests coming back into the UK. So they want £1200 for tests out there and coming back. We won't actually know if will be boarding the place until we are in the airport hotel the night before as it depends on test results 🥺 TUI are saying our flights are still live and going ahead!! I don't fancy walking around Spain with 2 young children looking for somewhere to test, and then what happens if we tests positive!? We be stuck in a foreign country for 10 days! It's really stressing me out, I just want to cancel the whole bloody thing! 😢

Nearer the time they may be allowing free change of dates so hang in there, alternatively it might be ok to travel and no tests needed. Too soon to say - they have allowed changes but obviously not when the holiday may be able to proceed

CharlotteRose90 · 28/01/2021 15:16

I wouldn’t worry. I work for a different company and Spain have currently cancelled flights until the end of June. We’re currently cancelling our bookings so I imagine TUI will do the same soon.

StarryStrawberry · 28/01/2021 15:17

Hi we have a holiday booked with TUI in early May too.

I spoke to a lady in customer services who said we can change the holiday now- at a cost of £150 pp- or alternatively wait because she believes they're likely to offer free changes nearer the time.

So as pp said, hold tight and it should be ok?

Mammaaof · 28/01/2021 15:23

Encouraging info! Thank you! @StarryStrawberry I have just got off the phone to tui and he told me it was £250 per person! 😮 It's so annoying as they are offering free changes to holidays up to 31st April and I'm going 10 days later!

@movingonup20 I really don't want to go anyway my partner is so unwell with long covid I just don't think it would be a holiday that would be enjoyed 😢 x

I suspect there will be a lot more of these threads. So many people last summer saying "oh move it to 2021, it'll be fine".

Hold out I think, it's unlikely to go ahead

Mammaaof · 28/01/2021 15:44

@davidsSchitt your very right that's exactly what I thought, that next year would be back to normal 🙈

Nightmare

Hopeisnotastrategy · 28/01/2021 16:11

The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez recently said that he didn't foresee tourists being welcomed back in Spain until the autumn. The Spanish Tourism minister then back-pedalled on what he said somewhat, but the truth is the Spanish aren't likely to be welcoming visitors for a wee while yet. It's going to be a while before they've got a reasonable number of people vaccinated, we currently don't anticipate being able to return to our second home there till the autumn but we shall see.

As others have said, hang fire and I think your problem will probably resolve itself. Hope your husband is soon feeling better. 💐

Daisypaisy2 · 28/01/2021 16:19

@CharlotteRose90 does this include package holidays?

Mammaaof · 28/01/2021 16:31

@Daisypaisy2 yes If flights are cancelled they cancel the whole holiday! 🙏

Thanks.

KasparKat · 28/01/2021 16:51

I'm in the same position for a holiday in June. Considering cancelling now and just losing the deposit.

Mammaaof · 28/01/2021 16:58

@KasparKat I'd push comes to shove I'd rather loose the £2000 I've paid for the holiday and just not go 😓

You need to hold your nerve with this.
It is unlikely that your holiday will go ahead.

All flights to Spain are cancelled up to April so far.

TUI overall have handled the situation well. So I would wait for now. They will probably cancel your holiday.

At that point they would offer you a refund or a free transfer.

Mammaaof · 28/01/2021 18:07

@uggmum I hope so, I really just want a refund as I feel safer that way and I'll be worried all year otherwise as we don't know what's happening from one second to the next at the moment!

@Mammaaof
At the moment it's just adding to your stress.
Try to put it out of your mind if you can as it's beyond your control right now.
I have 2 holidays booked for the end of the year.
I was meant to be flying to Iceland tomorrow and I have had other holidays cancelled.
TUI are handling it well in general.
When they cancel it they refund really quickly.
So fingers crossed

Yep if the travel company cancel your flights then everything else is cancelled and refunded.
