To say brushed and oiled flooring doesn't go with little kids?

This is becoming the central issue in my ouse right now. Help us get over it! We have a three-year-old and a one-year-old. We're about to buy an engineered wood floor (a layer of real wood on a ply back). I want a lightly lacquered finish because I think it'll be easier to clean mushed up chips out of it. My DP wants a 'brushed and oiled' finish because it looks nicer (it does) and it's more rustic. What do we go for?

Whatever floor you want. But cover it in foam squares or cheap rugs until the kids grow up

3 year old here and we have brushed and oiled finish throughout.

Also brushed and oiled here. No issues.

I was literally just researching this now! Have read that lacquered is better at resisting water penetration, but shows scratches and dents more. Oiled shows scratches less, but is less water resistant. So, is it more likely to get wet, or scratched, seems to be the way to decide! What room(s) do you want it for? I'm thinking living/dining room and hall.
