To think this is a bit bizarre.

This afternoon had a knock on the door from my neighbour who I've spoken to once. She said my 8 month old kitten had been shitting all over her garden and there was shit everywhere.

I find this strange as -

  1. Cats usually go in private areas and bury their mess.
  1. Other than picking up the shit there's not really much I can do.

I of course said to her I would go round tomorrow (working from home today) and pick it up. But I just find it an odd thing to go to someone's door about.

I'm even wondering if it's a fox that's been making the mess because cats wouldn't usually just leave shit at random all over the place. I also said I will look into anything that can be added to her garden so I've found deterrent spray but if that doesn't work, I can't do much more. They're cats.
And I'm not going round to her garden everyday to pick up shit.

AIBU?

@maybeimamazed456 you don’t mention a sex in your OP, so how was I to know?!

HighSpecWhistle · 27/01/2021 21:50

YABU. Cats do shit anywhere and don't always make attempts to bury it.

The solution is you go round there every few days to clean it all up. It's your cat, your mess.

Sunshineandflipflops · 27/01/2021 21:51

My cat goes in the garden (not the lawn) and buries it too. She barely leaves my garden. I don’t have a litter tray because I don’t want car shit in my house and she’d still go outside anyway.

Some neighbours near my parents have one of those sound deterrents. I can’t hear a thing when I walk past but my kids always comment about the noise...weird. I guess you lose some of your hearing pitch as you get older! Hope you find a solution.

Connelloni · 27/01/2021 21:52

@GreenlandTheMovie it’s not bizarre, as the multitude of posts on this thread from a number of posters saying cats shit in their gardens show. It is fucking annoying though.

Thanks for the advice @Updatemate it’s not necessary. I do wash supermarket fruit and veg, there’s a difference between that and picking veg out of my garden that I can see actual cat shit on.

RoseHipps · 27/01/2021 21:53

Yep, I’m another one saying cats shit absolutely anywhere and definitely do not bury it afterwards. It’s disgusting and infuriating.

maybeimamazed456 · 27/01/2021 21:54

Well I've just had a word with him so hoping that will do the trick.

The cat shit veg has really tickled me 😂

maybeimamazed456 · 27/01/2021 21:57

@Eileithyiaa same 😂

@maybeimamazed456

A similar thing has happened to me,my next door neighbor left a note in my letterbox and she reported me to the RSPCA cause my cats had used her garden as toilet.
I had RSPCA officer come out to my house too.

I can understand her my next door neighbour being pissed off about this,
But I can not understand why she did not have a word to me about that issue first to find a solution to sort this out, rather than go to the extreme reaction route.!

Has your Cat got a problem with runny stools,(diarrhoea) at the moment?

My advice is tel your local vets for advice to see if they sell any good products to deter cats from pooing in other peoples gardens.
Or
Vist or tel Pets at home/us store for good advice on what suitable products they sell to deal with this issue op.

Also provide a cat litter tray too for them.

Is there a particular reasons why your cat will not go to the toilet in your garden instead?
such as brambles etc in your garden need to sort out.

Ontheboardwalk · 27/01/2021 21:58

Cat uses cat litter now it’s an option for her however before this me and my neighbour watched her shitting next to his gnome

I told him to get a water pistol and he sprayed it near her but not at her when ever she was eyeing up her spot near her gone fishing mate

This and a cat litter tray means she goes out for mooch but comes in to use her tray

MumOfPsuedoAdult · 27/01/2021 21:58

@sylbunny

Not all cats go in private areas and bury it. My lovely asshole of a cat craps in the middle of the lawn almost every day.
Yep, I've got one of these. She at least tries to bury it (digging up my lawn in the process) Hmm
Connelloni · 27/01/2021 22:02

Glad it makes you laugh, we all need cheering up during lockdown, I guess you are typical cat owners after all Smile carry on making your neighbours lives that but worse as long as you get a cute kitten you know fuck all about looking after then.

maybeimamazed456 · 27/01/2021 22:02

@thosetalesofunexpected yes that is an extreme reaction. Were the RSPCA able to give you advice on finding a solution?

No loose stools as far as I am aware but then of course I wouldn't know as never see them go 😬

That's great advice, I will pop into pets at home and see if they can offer any advice. Thanks!

girlofnow · 27/01/2021 22:02

The RSPCA visited because a cat was crapping on the garden?! No wonder they don't have time to actually rescue any animals.

maybeimamazed456 · 27/01/2021 22:05

@Connelloni oh no need to be like that!

CrotchBurn · 27/01/2021 22:06

Jeez, who shat on your veg!

This is so infuriating and a classic example of why cats are the lazy pet owners' choice. You seem pretty inexperienced and actually rather clueless about cat behaviour. You having a cat should not mean your neighbour has to put up with, or clean up, shit all over her garden. I don't care if cats have the right to roam, an animal you choose to own and are responsible for should not be making the neighbours' lives a misery and putting their and their children's health at risk. Nor should it cost them money. I guarantee you'll get fed up of shit picking every day soon. Maybe then you'll realise how annoying it is, especially when it's not even their bloody cat.

Drbrowns · 27/01/2021 22:08

Cats shit every where and it’s really toxic. Someone I went to school with lost an eye because of it. I would be really annoyed if your car was shitting in my garden, especially cos it would mean I couldn’t let my kids out without checking the lawn first and having to disinfect any toys/balls that might be left out. Get the noise machine or spray.

LouLou789 · 27/01/2021 22:09

We’ve ended up covering the non lawn bit of our front garden with slate clippings and pots as we were so sick of cat shit. The lovely neighbour opposite is happy to clear any of his neighbour’s gardens weekly in case it is his cat but there are other cats around and we couldn’t definitely say it was his cat doing it. Slates have solved it and other neighbours have followed suit.

Incidentally, when my friend lived in Toronto for a while a neighbour complained about her cat being a nuisance and my friend was warned to keep her cat on a lead when outside, or risk it being taking to a pound, and only released upon the payment of a fine. Drastic.

Schmoozer · 27/01/2021 22:10

@CrotchBurn a lady up thread eats veg from her veg patch that has cat shit on it !

CSIblonde · 27/01/2021 22:11

I've never known a cat not bury their mess tbh. If they don't it's likely they were taken off their mum too young so didn't learn off her or they're old/ill. Are you in the countryside? It could be fox poo. I'd have smiled & said I'm sure it's not him, it'll be foxes then shut the door.

TramaDollface · 27/01/2021 22:12

What sort of cat doesn’t bury it’s own shite?

That’s fox poo

Connelloni · 27/01/2021 22:12

Oh dear @Drbrowns, if only your school mate had just washed her eye, I think you’ll find it’s actually a real laugh. Just ask the OP.
