To think this is a bit bizarre.

This afternoon had a knock on the door from my neighbour who I've spoken to once. She said my 8 month old kitten had been shitting all over her garden and there was shit everywhere.

I find this strange as -

  1. Cats usually go in private areas and bury their mess.
  1. Other than picking up the shit there's not really much I can do.

I of course said to her I would go round tomorrow (working from home today) and pick it up. But I just find it an odd thing to go to someone's door about.

I'm even wondering if it's a fox that's been making the mess because cats wouldn't usually just leave shit at random all over the place. I also said I will look into anything that can be added to her garden so I've found deterrent spray but if that doesn't work, I can't do much more. They're cats.
And I'm not going round to her garden everyday to pick up shit.

Thanks for the tip about the plastic water bottles. Will try but not ideal as I try to make the garden look nice. Had a bit more time to do a flower bed last summer !

Also, those of you who say your cats only shit in your gardens - if you're honest can you really say you see them every day doing it in your garden? I doubt it. You must have a lot of time on your hands if you watch them and can hand on heart say you know this. And if so I'm surprised you can put up with it yourselves, it's really unpleasant even if you keep on top of it.

I'm guessing most cat owners don't know where they are when they're out. Certainly when they're running out of my garden the owner is nowhere in sight.

And, for the owner whose cat had wet fur and guessed they'd been sprayed. Great that you don't mind but imagine how frustrated someone has got to be that organised to spray your cat to try deter it? Do you expect them to keep a daily vigil. What's the chances of them being successful at stopping the next 6363637839393 days of shit that will have to be dealt with?

Also, the "it must be foxes" gem of a deflection. I can't dispute it could be but it's a long shot isn't it that all these people having his experience of dealing with this massive problem are being targeted by foxes? I suggest it is more likely cats as there's so many of them around here, I've seen them in the garden, and my dog isn't rolling around in it.

It's never going to change. I've nearly driven myself mad over it and I can't fight it anymore. Just please please all you who want to own all these cats get them a bloody litter tray and stop being in denial.

Mine go twice daily in our garden- they are very regular and I see them do it at breakfast and as I'm making the kids an after school snack as the large kitchen window looks out on to the garden. They may shit at other times of the and elsewhere but when they only shat in the house it was twice a day so I doubt it. I don't see the difference between dealing with it in a litter tray and dealing with it outside.

Honestly mine rarely has left her own garden, she’s never had a fight and she’s almost 16 now, oh and she’s also never killed anything. She really is the perfect cat!

My neighbour has 4, maybe 5 cats. They ALL shit in my garden. It's literally everywhere. I know it's them because I have caught the and they don't care 😂 it's turned me a bit crazy, I now end up standing at the back door for ages waiting for them so I can let the dog out to chase them away.

ParlezVousWronglais · 30/01/2021 19:31

but I just find it strange as it's a...cat.

Well yes OP but not everyone wants to find shit all over their garden, their home, every day!

You do genuinely seem to be trying to sort the situation for your neighbour so good luck.
