According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

@Goodbye2020Hello2021

Those of you who eat at 8/9pm... What time do you get up. eat breakfast and lunch?
That was my normal time pre-pandemic. Breakfast at 8 or 9 am - bought on my way to the office, up at 6 but I just have a coffee and don't eat first thin in the morning

Lunch around 1 or 2 (or later if busy)

Diner when home.

My kids tend to have diner around 7, 7:30 on school days.

Bythemillpond · 27/01/2021 21:01

If you do a 9-5 job as a commute then I doubt you would be home in time for dinner.

Interested to know what people do if they are home at 5.30pm in order to make dinner and eat it by 6.30pm

Bloodybridget · 27/01/2021 21:01

Older couple, we eat between 7 and 8 depending what's happening (Ha! nothing's happening these days!) and how long supper takes to cook.

beingmorehappy · 27/01/2021 21:02

I cook once for all of us including young kids, so we eat at 7 pm ish. DH finishes work at 6pm so 7pm is the earliest he gets home. My kids go to bed late !

When I worked in London I wouldn't get home until 7.15pm and then I'd have to cook.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 27/01/2021 21:02

We aim for 7pm, 2 adults and 2 teenagers.

Earlier on a Sunday as we have it around 5pm due to brunch rather than lunch.

ithinkyouareveryrude · 27/01/2021 21:02

No earlier than 6:30 at an absolute push, usually nearer to 7:30/8.

Earlier than 6 o'clock?! I would be starving by bedtime!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/01/2021 21:02

I eat by 6 normally, because I’m really hungry by then and I don’t want to snack so we do eat that early.

Peaseblossom22 · 27/01/2021 21:02

6.30pm would be early for us , usually about 7/7.30

Sameshirt · 27/01/2021 21:02

We have tea any time between 5.30 and 6.00pm. DH gets up for work at 5am and goes to bed about 9.00 pm.

Lazydaisydaydream · 27/01/2021 21:03

We eat tea at 5-5:30. My OH finishes work at four and I’m a SAHM so we are all able to eat together, and then our 2 year old has bath and bed routine.

Before we had kids we ate at about 8pm. I go to bed at 8pm these days Grin

BuntysTwinkle · 27/01/2021 21:03

We eat between 8-9

CrunchyCarrot · 27/01/2021 21:03

Usually have dinner between 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 21:04

We are all adults and generally eat dinner at 5ish. none of us eat breakfast so have lunch around noon and are ready for dinner at 5. The evening would seem so short if we didn't eat until 7 or later. Also comes in handy when looking for a table in the days we could eat out!

thebluehen · 27/01/2021 21:04

We eat between 6-6:30 usually. It just depends on when everyone in the household finishes work and what fits in.

I would suggest that "most" people haven't eaten by 6pm though.

notalwaysalondoner · 27/01/2021 21:04

I believe it's a very regional thing - in London most people would be surprised if you ate dinner much before 1930 unless you had small children (partly because with long commutes you're rarely home much before 1830); in the north I believe it's far far more common to have dinner at 1730-1800.

I eat between 1930-2030 normally. When I was growing up we always had dinner separately to my parents at around 5-6pm and they ate after we were in bed at 2000 or so until we were old enough to join them at around 8-10 years old. I think I will do that too with my own children rather than eat ridiculously early and then graze all evening.

DicklessWonder · 27/01/2021 21:05

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

I don’t know anyone who eats an evening meal after 6:30pm. Between 5:30 to 6:30 round here.

I go to bed at 10. I’d be uncomfortable if l ate at 9 or 8:30.

And what do late eaters do between midday and late eating? So midday meal about 12:30 to 1? Then 7 or 8 hours until next meal? Don’t you get hungry?

I have breakfast at about 1pm, lunch at about 5pm and dinner at about 10-10:30pm.

I work a 9-5 usually (currently more like 8am-midnight).

Yellredder · 27/01/2021 21:05

Between 5 and 6 here except the night I finish work at 5.30, when it’d be between 6.30 and 7pm but OH and DD will have eaten before I get home.

FangsForTheMemory · 27/01/2021 21:06

I think if they eat it before 6pm, they call it tea. I prefer to have my dinner about 8.30 in the evening but it's bad for your digestion so I compromise and eat at about 7pm.

viques · 27/01/2021 21:07

I like to have eaten by 7:30, 7:45 at the latest, then I don’t eat anything again until about 8.30 , 9:00 the next morning, I used to eat later but find these timings suit my digestive system better.

JumboShiitake · 27/01/2021 21:08

@MargosKaftan

3pm seems an odd time to finish work, have you effectively shifted your day earlier?

We had a stage when dh was leaving for work around 6:30am, so he'd had breakfast at 6am. He was then hungry for lunch around 11am and when he got in at just after 5pm and I was doing dinner for toddler dc1, dh was ready to eat again, so we fell into eating early. However now he starts his day at a more normal hour (and the dcs are a little older), we eat as a family around 6pm or if its just me and dh eating separately we tend to eat around 7pm.

When you say before 6 is early, are you eating breakfast and lunch at "normal" times or for work are you having those early too?

@MargosKaftan I work p/t and usually DP's job involves a lot of travelling so often on the road by 6am.

We've shifted our days a bit later while WFH but I still prefer to eat about 7.30 regardless of when I get up or go to bed.

Is also like to know if the late eaters have lunch between the typical 12-2 hours or do you lunch late or snack between?

Wineiscooling · 27/01/2021 21:09

Generally after 7pm here. Normally not finished work until 6pm and then dog needs a walk or in normal non pandemic times kids have after school activities. Lucky if it's 7pm really, more like 8pm

OFAHmusical · 27/01/2021 21:10

I haven’t read the full thread, but for those of you who eat late, 7-8pm or so, are you not starving by that time? (Assuming a lunch of 1pm). Or do you snack in between? I just couldn’t go 7 hours without food!

blowinahoolie · 27/01/2021 21:10

Breakfast 7am, lunch 11-11.30am, tea 4pm and supper 7pm.

TeddyBeans · 27/01/2021 21:11

At 6 on weekdays and at 5 on weekends. We eat as a family and my mum doesn't finish work til half five during the week. Have never eaten later than 6 but then I like to be in bed early

joeyroo · 27/01/2021 21:12

We eat between 7.00 and 7.30. Closer to 7.00 while everyone is WFH
