How does your baby nap if you have a toddler!?

DD (3 months) used to sleep so deeply that the DS could be screaming right next to her and she wouldn’t stir. She now requires near silence to drift off. A nightmare in a tiny cottage! She’ll fall asleep in the sling outside but I can’t be forcing the toddler out into the garden every time she’s due a nap... it would mean hours of my life sorting out coats and wellies! (We get outside for a good 2+ hours every day, we’re not just sat inside, I just don’t want to be in and out!)

Realistically, I’m just going to have to let her kip in another room with a baby monitor aren’t i? There isn’t actually another solution?

I’m in exactly the same situation (baby is 4.5 months). That’s what I do! She naps upstairs or in the other room with the doors closed ... it’s the only way lol!

In a different room. Tv on for toddler.

I used to put mine to sleep in the pram in the kitchen at that age and try to keep the toddler quiet in the living room, and kept popping in and out to check.
I’d try some white noise to drown background noise, was a massive help when mine were small

I'm due with no. 2 in a couple of weeks and have wondered this too - this 'all sleeps in the same room as you at all times for six months' things is always a bit of a counsel of perfection, but surely it's completely unworkable if it's not your first baby?

Mumofsend · 27/01/2021 15:34

My youngest went through that stage and then suddenly redeveloped the ability to sleep through just about anything. Its quite impressive! It does come back

OnSilverStars · 27/01/2021 15:41

My baby slept upstairs with the monitor from about 4 months while noisy toddler was downstairs

ParkheadParadise · 27/01/2021 15:45

Both of mine slept in the pram in the garden from newborn for hours at a time. In all weather.

How old is your toddler?
My baby and toddler would nap together in the afternoon 1-3. Is this an option?

minipie · 27/01/2021 15:46

Yes in another room. The same room for all naps advice is IMO completely unrealistic especially for a second or third etc child.

VinceNoirsShinyBoots · 27/01/2021 22:42

@IMightCry I had about three weeks of this wonderful magic before 2YO decided naps were no fun. I can’t really complain though as he does now go to bed at 6pm and sleep 13/14 hours 😊
