Posting here for traffic.

Ours has finally given up the ghost having survived ten years, a house move and cleaning up the detritus after a full replaster (which was the death knell for it really).

Have a mid sized three bedroom terraced house so not a shoebox but not exactly a big house. Mostly laminate flooring, with tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, a few rugs and stairs carpet.

I have tried multiple online quizzes and am honestly still none the wiser.

Budget isn't huge around £150-£200. Could maybe stretch to £250 but that would be pushing it (I'm on nmw and dp was made redundant in December so a bit skint but still need a half decent vacuum and there is a bit in the savings pot for such things)

I love my Miele. Great for carpets, great for hard floors. It's small so can be stored in a cupboard.

britnay · 03/02/2021 20:19

Miele Cat and Dog. We've bought a second one now so that we have one for each floor so that they children don't have to lug them up or down the stairs when they hoover.

No idea - but this made me laugh earlier

Had every vacuum under the sun from Sebo, Miele, Dyson (worst one ever) to Henry. We have had 4 kids, many multiple pets and I love my Henry, who withstands so much abuse and keeps going. I panicked a several years ago as EU were bringing in laws to cut down on electric use, so in effect rendering them less suction power, so went out and purchased another Henry, it's still boxed under the stairs in case our existing one should ever die.

littlepattilou · 03/02/2021 20:41

@BillywigSting

HENRY all the way for me. Had ours 7 years, and it still works as well as it did when we bought it!

Palaver1 · 03/02/2021 20:55

In the last 24 years I have used only 2 dysons but will not get another one ,when this one packs up .They don't make them as they used to sorry Mr Dyson.
Sharks only heard that they are overrated.
Large number of returns.

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 03/02/2021 21:03

Had my Miele for 13 years...

OverByYer · 03/02/2021 21:09

Hoovers are the bane of my life and I’m still looking for the perfect one ( ie one that picks up black sock fluff)
I’ve had an upright, cylinder and cordless dysons. Hate them all. Waiting for my cylinder to die.
Had a Henry, hated that most of all. His stupid red face flailing behind me bashing into everything. Twat.
The best I’ve had was Miele cylinder but I wrecked it when we had an extension sucking up builders mess.
I would like another cordless but am so wary if wasting more money

shhsecretsquirrel · 03/02/2021 21:11

Shark lift away pet, brilliant, better than the Dyson we had.

1Morewineplease · 03/02/2021 21:26

Miele or Sebo.

I love my Shark Duo-clean Lift-away.

My previous cleaners were a Dyson Cordless which was totally useless and was constantly getting blocked (and cost £400 for a stick with a brush on the end basically) and Dyson DC04 which was very good but much heavier than new vacuums so I didn't want to carry it upstairs.

The Shark is definitely the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. (It isn't the cordless one). Suction is fantastic - you really notice the difference between the suction on hard floors and the oomph for suction on carpets. It glides and swivels so easily, cleans right up to the edges of a room, goes under low furniture and under wall-hung radiators and has fab lights on the front so you can see where to clean under furniture.
Cleaning has always been a chore but with the Shark, honestly, it's quick and a delight.

Mine was over your budget, OP, £279 from Costco, but I've had it for 18 months so it may have reduced in price now.

RonObvious · 04/02/2021 09:26

I have a Shark liftaway and love it, although it's not great on laminate floors, so probably wouldn't be your best bet.

LadyEloise · 04/02/2021 09:30

@goody2shooz
My Miele Cat and Dog is brilliant but very heavy.

freeandfierce · 04/02/2021 09:38

Shark liftaway, lots of offers on the website. I got mine in January for £199 instead of £349 with free delivery and 5 year guarantee.

Blacksheepcat · 04/02/2021 10:18

Miele cat and dog!

Pleasethinkbeforebuying · 04/02/2021 11:33

Tried Dyson cordless - shite
Dyson corded Junior Lightball (upstairs) - very good, lightweight, brilliant on carpets and tiled surfaces.
Dyson corded Lightball (downstairs) - it's ok, but not as good as the Junior
I also have a Miele corded, very good - 10 years old and relegated to vacuum the cars

Rupertbeartrousers · 04/02/2021 11:57

There’s definitely something about Henry that men like... just replaced ours if it keeps dh happy to do the hoovering (even if a bit heavy for me to do the stairs)

TokyoSushi · 04/02/2021 11:59

We have a Shark lift away after starting a similar thread on here, it was also the £199 reduced from £349 option, I really like it!

Its a bit heavy but the suction is amazing!!

Hellothere19999 · 04/02/2021 12:00

Dyson is a good hoover but not very long battery life and their customer service is the W O R S T . Like honestly horrendous. Personally, I would go for the g tech, 200 quid from Argos.

I've just treated myself to this (was on sale on VERY) and I genuinley can't praise it enough! I f*cking love it!! We have 4 cats and it makes short work of their hair

We live in a 3 bed terrace with a mix of hard floor and carpet/rugs and used to have a cordless VAX that just stopped picking up the bits of cat litter that are always on the floor

The Shark is by far the best hoover I've ever used, and we've had Dysons before too

littleloopylou · 04/02/2021 12:01

I'm American. I was horrified when I moved here and discovered how shit the vacuums are. I got a Miele (with power brush for carpets) last year and I finally feel like I have something that actually cleans.
