Posting here for traffic.

Ours has finally given up the ghost having survived ten years, a house move and cleaning up the detritus after a full replaster (which was the death knell for it really).

Have a mid sized three bedroom terraced house so not a shoebox but not exactly a big house. Mostly laminate flooring, with tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, a few rugs and stairs carpet.

I have tried multiple online quizzes and am honestly still none the wiser.

Budget isn't huge around £150-£200. Could maybe stretch to £250 but that would be pushing it (I'm on nmw and dp was made redundant in December so a bit skint but still need a half decent vacuum and there is a bit in the savings pot for such things)

I'm not getting a Henry they're shite!

Still very much undecided but this thread has definitely shown me what I don't want (and that I am a fussy bugger)

Am currently leaning towards this

Mil has a similar setup to us and a slightly bigger house and gets on well with her cordless. It takes about 20 minutes to hoover mine from top to bottom. It's really not a big house.

Miele vacuums aren’t always £600, I think mine was around £200 12 years ago and a comparable model now is about £250.

BillywigSting · 25/01/2021 19:02

Also really have no need for a heavy upright. Have a small carpeted area (14 stairs and enough landing to for my sub five foot tall self to lie down on but not my 5ft6 dp).

So really it's either cordless or cylinder I think.

If you go for a cordless make sure the battery is replaceable.

Shmithecat2 · 25/01/2021 19:08

I bought one of these (pre eu wattage limits blah blah) and its awesome. I use my Dyson V11 for daily use, but when I'm having a 'proper' cleaning session, the Miele comes out.

DimplesToadfoot · 25/01/2021 19:09

Shark duo lift away pet ... I love mine, I'd never go back to a Dyson, with new customer codes, stacked with a new credit pay over 3 months code I paid straight away it cost me just over £150 from Very

Staywithmemyblood · 25/01/2021 19:17

Hi @BillywigSting - my MIL has recently bought a Vax cordless similar to the one you’re looking at (same price point but no pet hair attachment) and lives in a house of similar size/ flooring to what you’ve described. She’s been really pleased with it - and she’s a fussy besom! 😂

DimplesToadfoot · 25/01/2021 19:17

@FlumpetCrumpet if your Shark isn't trying to suck the dust and crap from not only your floors but your neighbours too then I would guess that you have a faulty one, Have you contacted Shark?

Goonanooa · 25/01/2021 19:21

I have a Miele Cat and Dog. Very powerful, really good but oh so heavy. I'm thinking of getting a cordless for upstairs.

carltongirl · 25/01/2021 19:21

Miele Cat & Dog every time. Great for human and animal hair, portable, compact amazing. Just replaced mine with another the same. I use eBay fake bags which work just fine.

AhNowTed · 25/01/2021 19:24

Miele.

I've had it at least 10 years and it works perfectly.

SwedishEdith · 25/01/2021 19:25

Miele as well. Bottom of the range model but all we need in a 3 bed house.

SwedishEdith · 25/01/2021 19:28

This is probably ours

We did get a cordless at first and then I read they could give up their rechargeability after 2 or 3 years. So corded seemed safer bet.

SymphonyofShadows · 25/01/2021 19:30

I’ve got a Gtech and a Henry. The Gtech was supposed to replace the Henry, which was going to be used for the car and for when DH makes a mess doing DIY, but we still use it all the time.

bravotango · 25/01/2021 19:30

Cordless Vax. About 200. Fab

CCSS15 · 25/01/2021 19:36

Miele cat and dog - think it might be the C3 - its red anyway. Im sure it wasn't as much as 250.

Also have a shark cordless which is very good - if you're not too messy what about a robo vacuum? I also have one of these which is good for day to day but you do need to keep things tidy

Skysblue · 25/01/2021 20:07

I had a Bosch corded vacuum cleaner, was fine for 15 years then the cord retraction motor broke so we bought a henry. I hate the henry and have gone back to the using the semi-broken bosch. So I suggest bosch!

AnaisNun · 25/01/2021 20:12

Corded - Vax Airlift. I LOVE it. My mum has a shark and we both agree (having tried both) that we prefer the Vax.

BillywigSting · 25/01/2021 20:31

I think I'm either going to go with the cordless vax or cordless bosch, both about £200.

I have used mieles before and agree they are good but over powered and over priced for what I need

This shark is very similar to one I have. Best vacuum ever and a brilliant price ATM. £149.99. see link below. The liftaway technology is great

Previously had a Dyson cordless. Never again. Brilliant to begin with, then lost suction after six to twelve months

Nopreservatives · 25/01/2021 20:33

Eufy robovac. Seriously life changing and I'm not even a little bit joking.

Greensmurf1 · 03/02/2021 18:07

Henry.
It can handle everything and it is easy to get replacement parts and accessories if you need to deal with particular messes or if you do something daft to the hose or attachments.
Use it for hair and fluff stuck in the carpet when nothing else will do the job, dirt when a plant pot gets knocked over, dusty curtains and ledges. It’s one of the few that is powerful enough for heavy duty mess like bits of plaster. It’s got the right filters for people with allergies and asthma.

I think we’ve had ours for 11 years or maybe 15. My husband actually enjoys using it so it’s his chore to do.

Chilledchablis · 03/02/2021 18:41

Another vote for Shark. I have both corded and cordless pet anti hair wrap. Changed my life

MmeLaraque · 03/02/2021 20:00

We just bought a karcher for vacuuming our stove and other things. Our Dyson has finally failed after 18 years of use. We couldn't affor to replace the Dyson, but needed something that would cope with ash and soot, so...

goody2shooz · 03/02/2021 20:13

With kind of Miele do you people buy?! I bought a cylinder one a couple of years ago and I DESPISE it. It gives me rage every time I use it. It’s a bloody workout to use, the cord is too short and the whole hose thing?? Don’t get me started. We had a couple of Dysons that were great - I got the beastly Miele cos they’re supposed to be so good, but I’m actually going to buy another (non Miele) upright as I hate it so much. I came on here to see what was recommended and was astonished/gobsmacked/unbelieving to read all those pp saying Miele! Noooooo!
