Posting here for traffic.

Ours has finally given up the ghost having survived ten years, a house move and cleaning up the detritus after a full replaster (which was the death knell for it really).

Have a mid sized three bedroom terraced house so not a shoebox but not exactly a big house. Mostly laminate flooring, with tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, a few rugs and stairs carpet.

I have tried multiple online quizzes and am honestly still none the wiser.

Budget isn't huge around £150-£200. Could maybe stretch to £250 but that would be pushing it (I'm on nmw and dp was made redundant in December so a bit skint but still need a half decent vacuum and there is a bit in the savings pot for such things)

Do they ever a half price sale??

BillywigSting · 25/01/2021 18:07

I've had too many refurbished things be fine for a year then drop dead to be willing to buy refurbished, especially when it's something that to me is quite expensive

Shark Liftaway pet= fantastic.

joystir59 · 25/01/2021 18:08

Don't get anything cordless, they don't hold enough charge and they don't have enough suction

JonSnowsCloak · 25/01/2021 18:09

Shark liftaway pet - brilliant, so easy to do the stairs and it gets right under things, mine was 199 off their website pay in 4 installments x

BillywigSting · 25/01/2021 18:10

@06Nochristmasbreak exactly I have £250 at a big stretch not nearly £600! That's more than double the very very top end of my budget (if I spend £250 we will be eating a lot of beans on toast until payday)

Every dyson I’ve owned (3) has been shit. I’ll be getting a shark.

Minky37 · 25/01/2021 18:13

I hate the Dyson cordless. Runs out of charge after 10 mins, filter blocks all the time.

OHolyTights · 25/01/2021 18:13

A tough as old boots red Henry is difficult to beat IME.

AmandaHugenkiss · 25/01/2021 18:14

The first time I used my Shark lift away pet was like a religious experience. Even DP loves it and he has ridiculously high standards of cleaning/cleaning products. You just have to be careful it doesn’t lift carpet or suck up power cables.

Got mine on an Amazon Black Friday deal half price. Worth all of the pennies.

OHolyTights · 25/01/2021 18:15

And a Henry would be kind to your budget.

Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2021 18:15

I've had similar to the Vax one linked above, it was fine.

I'm sure Which? had one at about £50 that they said was a very good basic vacuum.

Popsy321 · 25/01/2021 18:16

Do not get a dyson or a cordless. Miele every single time.

BillywigSting · 25/01/2021 18:17

I'll repeat I am not getting a Henry (or a hetty) . I know lots of people rave over them but I can't stand them.

Shock
Tellmetruth4 · 25/01/2021 18:33

Dyson is style over substance. Friend spent a lot of money on one and said it’s rubbish. I’ve been told that Miele is good though.

davidsSchitt · 25/01/2021 18:40

Roomba!

ghostyslovesheets · 25/01/2021 18:41

I've got a Shark for the stairs and an Airam plus an old Dyson for the decking (it's a thing ok!)

all are fine - they pick stuff up off the carpet - manage with 5 cats 3 kids - I can't bring myself to get worked up over any of them but they do the job

ghostyslovesheets · 25/01/2021 18:42

My mum has a Henry - I hate it - it's pants

devildeepbluesea · 25/01/2021 18:43

Henry Henry Henry.

I've had Gtech (great, but batteries dodgy and tiny reservoir), Shark (just shit), Miele (good but not worth the extra £££)

GabriellaMontez · 25/01/2021 18:43

The shark has changed my life.

MollysMummy2010 · 25/01/2021 18:51

I got the GTec for Christmas (I know but nothing else I wanted) and it’s great. We have all wood floors, one rug and also got the handheld thing which is brilliant.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 25/01/2021 18:52

Watching with interest. I was so excited to get my very first Dyson (cordless) - it’s shit, I’ll never get another one. I need something decent for stairs and getting cat hair from upholstery.

BeastOfBODMAS · 25/01/2021 18:58

I have the grey, commercial version of a Henry, it has a more powerful motor than red Henry but no cord windy thingit. It’s brilliant.

Weight not an issue but I will admit to having arms like a docker
