Narcissists actually exist?

I'm unsure if my ex was a narcissist.
He has a lot of the traits
Do you think they really exist?
Have you ever dated one?
What were they like?
My ex (of a week ago ) used to play the victim.
He would make me doubt myself.
He started off so charming and made me feel so special then did a total u turn and made me doubt everything.
Then got mad for me asking.
Then he called me a narcissist

My ex had to have a psyc evaluation as part of our child access hearing. He sounded very like your ex op, I fully expected it to come back saying he was a narcissist. It didn't and I was gutted.
Now years on I'd still like to have explanation for his treatment of me. But it wouldn't change things, his behaviour was awful and no label will change it or make it easier to bear. He spent years convincing me it was all my fault. I'll never know if he was a narcissist, I just need to work on myself and putting it all behind me

Narcisstic Personality Disorder exists, and like all personality disorders are just made up of a number of traits to enable you get a diagnosis. You can have traits but not meet the criteria for diagnosis. As for how common it really is, who knows, I work with people with personality disorders and we don't tend to treat many because they don't tend to present to the NHS as they don't think they need help.
