The worst spelling mistake ever

146 replies

mymadpuppy · 24/01/2021 09:51

Someone had wrote to a friend on facebook and couldn't spell "I".....but rather "eye" instead.
Example....."Eye went to the shop" Shock

Now I don't normally care how people spell things, and I know it's none of my business but aibu to declare this the worst spelling mistake ever? It wasn't a typo either because "eye" instead of "I" is constantly used by this person.

In honour of Paddington Bear, I always spell these words "custerd" and "eye tinnery".

DramaAlpaca · 24/01/2021 23:48

@Topseyt

In adeath column once in the local paper a dearly departed loved one was "residing in the safe arse of Jesus". I'm sure whoever typed that up got into a lot of trouble

🤣🤣🤣

I rather like that one.

Made me laugh too Grin

Thanks for all the replies off people who took the thread in the right spirit, in other words not too seriously. To the others....you're the ones who make many people steer clear of aibu.

@MindyStClaire

The worst I ever saw was on here, on an innocuous food thread. The poster wrote that she'd be giving the kids chicken nuggets. But her phone betrayed her, and instead of writing "nuggets" wrote a horrific racial slur. Poor poster was mortified and completely mystified as to why her phone had used this word she'd never used herself, while everyone else laughed at her embarrassment.
Well that person must have used that word on a regular basis for it to be in her autocorrect library. Shame on her.

I work in pensions and once found a copy of a letter sent to a client saying “I refer to Theodore named scheme” instead of “the above scheme”. Proof reading fail!

Brighterthansunflowers · 25/01/2021 00:42

I used to regularly misspell inconvenience in such a way that autocorrect would change it to incontinence. I don’t THINK I ever wrote to customers apologising for causing them incontinence thankfully

Nunoftheother · 25/01/2021 18:30

Please can someone explain the "safe arse of Jesus" typo? I'm obviously being obtuse but I can't work it out! Blush

DramaAlpaca · 25/01/2021 18:39

@Nunoftheother it should be 'in the safe ARMS of Jesus' Grin

MasterBeth · 25/01/2021 18:42

It’s no Beloved Cunt, Curb Your Enthusiasm-style.

spaceghetto · 25/01/2021 18:49

I once wrote an email for a health campaign and put "fat slags" instead of "fat slabs".

Thestreets · 25/01/2021 18:54

I once sent an email to the whole department including senior management team asking everybody to "please check your arses" when an item had been lost!! Was obviously meant to say areas so not quite sure how my brain typed that Blush

MrsPerfect12 · 25/01/2021 19:01

I had some senior management from a client come to our office for a conference call with our sister company in Norway. I put the details incase the call dropped out on a white board and the guy was called Knut. Yep I wrote i Kunt. 🙈

sqirrelfriends · 25/01/2021 19:15

@EspressoExpresso

Clearly you've never typo'd "kind regards" as "kind retards" when emailing a disability charity to enquire about hiring their hydro pool Blush

Cloverforever · 25/01/2021 19:22

I was looking on a website today and they were advertising free van Fire, instead of hire!

CupoTeap · 25/01/2021 19:23

Well I missed a letter when typing 'counting' in a work email , I think I win Grin

Thesagacontinues · 25/01/2021 19:30

When I was a trainee, I used to cringe at the senior accountant who sent out letter after letter saying 'behave' instead of 'behalf'.

PantTwizzler · 25/01/2021 19:35

Haven’t RTFT but my DS wrote “count” in his piano music as a small child... except that, being dyslexic, he left out the O.

It was written in very bold black writing. We noticed after the piano lesson.

secretrugbyfan · 25/01/2021 19:43

People that type 'wot' instead of 'what'. Grrrrrr

Also, there is an unfortunate spelling of the word 'account' if you get your letters mixed up!!

Nunoftheother · 25/01/2021 22:13
@Nunoftheother it should be 'in the safe ARMS of Jesus' Grin
Ohhhhh. Of course. Thank you. Smile

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 25/01/2021 22:24

I'd assume it was an in joke tbh. If you saw some of the nonsense DC and I send each other you'd think none of us could spell!

MissingLinker · 25/01/2021 22:38

When my friend was s TA in a primary school, her class read "Walking with my iguana" by Brian Moses. She'd typed up a paragraph about the work they'd done on it for a display but wrote at the top Wanking with my Iguana.
