I’m working from home during the week so when it comes to the weekend it feels a bit same old just without work! What’s everyone doing on their weekends at the moment to mix it up as best you can?

Walking, doing exercises, watching films, a bit of tidying up today. Hoping tomorrow with include playing in the snow!

HouseyHouse21 · 23/01/2021 21:02

Saturdays - running up and down a hill with a friend, then cleaning and laundry ad infinitum. Maybe a nap if I'm lucky. Sunday - catching up on work and dreading another week of juggling homeschooling and a full time job. Fun.

HouseyHouse21 · 23/01/2021 21:03

That's a socially distanced run by the way, before anyone asks....

TheFaithfulBorderBinliner · 23/01/2021 21:07

DD met a friend today for a walk, they diverted to see a dead fox.
Inspired by DD we talked over dinner about all the dead countryside animals we had seen.
How the fuck did it come to this.

mizu · 23/01/2021 21:10

The weekend go far too quickly.

The last 2 weekends I worked both days prepping classes and this weekend I've cleaned the place and done food shopping.

Long walk tomorrow and work in the afternoon ready for Monday.

Trying to switch off as much as possible but it's hard.

Watching lots of TV - iplayer and Netflix and playing board games.

Dreamylemon · 23/01/2021 21:12

I have energetic 2DC under 5 so weekends revolve around wearing them out! My DH has had to work around home schooling as I am an NHS worker so can't WFH. He ends up most of the weekend to catch up so I take the kids. We also quite often do school work over the weekend as it's hard to fit in the week and it gives them something to do.

I try and get them outside and active for as long as is humanly possible. They are dressed for subzero temperatures. We usually go to a playground, park, long walk or bike ride.

Today I felt a real sense of wishing time away. It's lovely to have a young family but so much pressure at the moment. I would love to break the monotony with a trip swimming, a play date or soft play.

grassisjeweled · 23/01/2021 21:15

2 outdoor activities per day, otherwise the kids are too wild

Play dough
Crayons, painting, crafts
Bit of cooking

Bath for the kids, early night for them, wine for me

YetAnotherWalk · 23/01/2021 21:17

Uhm, have a guess Grin walks, baking/cooking, movies, toys, craft - the same as during the week!

Robin233 · 24/01/2021 04:09

Don't think my routine is much different to pre covid.
Saturday have a good lay in / catch up sleep / Screen time / tv - Netflix.
Get up / wash / dress.
Hour of housework. Breakfast. Another hour of house work. Laundry. Lovely walk and often rung adult son for chat at same time Husband home from over time 4 ish. Snack with dh. Ironing and put dry laundry away.
Cook tea while enjoying something alcoholic.
Eat tea together while watching TV.
Sunday is a Total free day.
Usually late up having snuggle time and watching tv in bed.
Breakfast
Afternoon walk while husband works on camper van / which is almost done now 😀
Have snack.
About 4 dh visited our neighbors who is in our bubble - he's in his ninety's while I do sunday tea.

When dh returns have tea relaxing together.
Soak in the bath before bed.

lovelemoncurd · 24/01/2021 04:33

Mm we usually go for a walk with the dog. Do DIY. Yesterday I joined in with daughter dying hair pink ( I just did an underneath part), spend longer cooking/ baking. Clean things that need it or clean out/ throw out. Chat to friends and occasionally meet up for a walk with odd friend and a takeaway coffee.

Bluewavescrashing · 24/01/2021 04:40

Lazy mornings as I'm teaching all week and DCs are in school. Cleaning, laundry. DH takes DCs out on a Saturday afternoon so I can have a doze. Playing with DCs, watching films, refereeing their arguments. Cuddling pets. Cooking nice meals. Board games, sometimes crafting or baking. Usually a family walk on Sundays and a roast dinner.

sundaysgirls · 24/01/2021 04:57

On the sofa in my pjs watching tv

AliceAbsolum · 24/01/2021 05:23

I live in a van so everything takes twice as long. Day normally goes like this:
DH climbs over me and puts the heater and kettle on. We chat until the vans warmed up and teas made, then I get up and get dressed. We eat breakfast and listen to the radio.
DH takes the blinds down and opens up the van curtains and does the bin while I make the bed and both of us a coffee.
Then we either vlog/edit vlog or I do a few hours work.
Out for a run around 11am for an hour or two. Then lunch and clean up takes us to 2pm.
Read/chat/edit/admin/screens/jobs around the van. Skype friends and family.
6-8pm is cook, eat, clear up. Then we put all the blinds back up, tidy up, and watch TV on the laptop in bed before sleep.
I love it!

Rainbowqueeen · 24/01/2021 06:00

My fave podcast drops on Friday so a walk Saturday morning while I listen to it (just the gist if anyone is interested). Yoga with Adrienne.

I’m trying to cook one new thing a week. Last week was chicken Marsala. This week is zabilione Walk on Sunday while chatting on phone to a friend. Usually a zoom call to family on Saturday night.

Sunday afternoon get organised for the week ahead.

kittlesticks · 24/01/2021 06:44

The lockdown is hard for everyone but in different ways. We have very little DC and therefore spend the whole weekend trying to make sure they both sleep that night.
Usually in the morning we have a lie in each, so the other one gets up with the kids, toys come out, occupy them and give them breakfast, then once we are both up we might take them out for a walk, maybe treat ourselves to a drive thru costa, then home, give them an early lunch and hope at least one of them naps, usually put a Disney film on for the older one, then after the nap we take them for a walk in the woods or out on the scooters/trikes. Then home, everyone sits down to dinner at 5, unless we have plans to get a takeaway or something. Then usually they play for a bit, we tidy up the toys, then they watch CBeebies and wind down for bed. Bath at 6, bed by 7.
And... 6.30am the next morning we begin again... Brewgets me through!

MrsDThomas · 24/01/2021 08:32

Out in the fresh air. I was out for 3 hours yesterday.

Shoxfordian · 24/01/2021 08:36

We usually have the papers in bed and tea with a biscuit then have breakfast. It’s usually a bigger breakfast like eggs and bacon or something. Might order it in today though, really fancy a smoked salmon bagel.

Dh and I then play games on the switch or board games, doing pandemic legacy 3 at the moment, have some snacks, watch a silly film. We’re doing various restaurant delivery boxes that you cook yourself, last night did Banquist and had some wine. Tonight he will play on the PlayStation with a friend (online before anyone reports me) and I’ll Skype my mum

I don't often laugh out loud, but thanks for that gem!

hopeishere · 24/01/2021 08:44

Get a takeaway coffee and the papers
Potter in the house
Watch TV - just finished The Crown
Go for a walk

Today's plans... make brownies, possibly go for a walk, jigsaw puzzle.

It is a bit boring though.

What are podcasts all about? I'm seriously clueless.

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/01/2021 12:22

At the moment I’m working Saturdays to catch up on what I can’t do during the week with the kids home, yesterday I worked from 9 til 9. I’m absolutely wiped out today so it’s going to be a very lazy day - I might do some craft stuff with the kids but that’s about it.

RuleOfCat · 24/01/2021 12:47

Slightly off-topic here: does anyone know where the dedicated jigsaw puzzle thread has gone? I made the mistake of not putting it in watched threads and now can't find it, despite searching for keywords like 'jigsaw puzzle'. This thread came up in the search results though! Perhaps there's something of an overlap...
So to answer the question here: yesterday we did standard tidying plus some much-needed sorting out of old paperwork. It the weather weren't so bad we'd go for a local walk, although rain will reduce the number of people out and about so that's one plus. And today I'd like to work on my impossible jigsaw puzzle, but need advice from more experienced people on the thread.

Have a 4 and 1yo. Winter lockdown weekends feel quite different to the summer and we just seen to achieve less at the moment and our house feels permanently trashed in a way I don’t remember it being last year.

At the moment, our weekends have looked a bit like the following.

little one wakes up at 6.30 and we bring her into bed with us for milk and tv until the other one wakes up. Generally have a lazy morning until zoom ballet at 10. If the weather is nice we’ll get out for a walk or playground before lunch. 1yo then sleeps and we all flop. Afternoon the children play (and argue) and we have a film or more tv. Sunday is repeated but with no zoom activities. We always have a roast.

Lazy weekends seem to suit my husband and 1yo. Me and the 4yo are bored shitless.

Judellie · 24/01/2021 16:28

Doing a quiz my friend sent me. Cleaned bathrooms yesterday, vacuumed today. Watched NCIS as DD loves it and I have never seen it either as before lockdown I never watched TV.
Went for a walk and posted a birthday card. Chucked some stuff out. Made meals and will probably reply to my penpal after tea as had a letter from her yesterday.

Seaair2 · 28/01/2021 17:31

I think I feel guilty for sitting on the sofa for a few hours of a weekend and watching Netflix, which I know is silly, especially in January!! But I feel I should be making most of the time but then I don’t have the motivation to sort through all the cupboards etc as it’s boring!! As we approach another weekend I’m going to read back through everyone’s replies for some ideas 😄
