I’m working from home during the week so when it comes to the weekend it feels a bit same old just without work! What’s everyone doing on their weekends at the moment to mix it up as best you can?

Being disappointed after looking forward to it when wfh for such long hours in the week. Always fingers crossed for next weekend!!

Ragwort · 23/01/2021 19:04

gasgig sometimes I wonder if life would be more interesting if I had young DC at home - only joking !!

I am so fed up of 'relaxing and chilling' - I absolutely know I am very lucky to be furloughed but life is just so tedious.

I have managed to find a new volunteering opportunity which is great as it gives me an opportunity to get out at weekends (the project is overwhelmed with people offering to volunteer Grin) apart from that ... I do a bit of housework, aim to go for a walk (too cold today), have a couple of friends I can walk separately with, have a nap, read, Mumsnet, run out of conversation with my DH who is equally bored and frustrated... phone family - sick of tv and films. Occasionally have a Quiz night, sick of cooking 'nice' meals - we always have nice meals with wine so it's hardly a novelty.

And try not to sound like a moaner when I know I am one of the lucky ones - no financial hardship, no home schooling, DPs local so I can visit (very elderly so need support).

living not loving!

harridan50 · 23/01/2021 19:06

Friday night take it in turns to choose a film
Saturday takeaway and games night
Sunday walk

heathergem · 23/01/2021 19:10

Walking locally, an hour or so each day

Pottering in garden, tidying up

Spring cleaning indoors, sorting out things to donate to charity shops

All of the above done listening to music, radio, podcasts

piepuddingchips · 23/01/2021 19:17

@CharlieD284

Up early, breakfast, long dog walk in the country, home for a hot lunch, put the fire on and sit on couch to watch some good TV, afternoon freshly ground coffee and cake (always the highlight), proper home cooked dinner having given up on takeaways then maybe a drink and a movie on or boxset.

Absolutely love our weekends now. We moved from the city to suburbs at the end of the first lockdown so completely embracing the quiet life. Other than the occasional brunch out or traveling further afield for a dog walk, I don't think we'll change much when restrictions are lifted.

This sounds perfect!
Christmasfairy2020 · 23/01/2021 19:22

Today we went on a walk and to the park with my mum. I went to mcdz and Starbucks. Tomorrow husband is off so Sunday lunch and a bike ride with kids. Oh my dd has a zoom magician tomorrow as well

DrunkenKoala · 23/01/2021 19:32

Saturday mornings I alternate between giving myself a pedicure and dying my hair (have fast growing hair and home dyes don’t last much longer than two weeks)
Housework and baking. Going for a walk/taking DD to local park.
Probably watch a film tonight.

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 23/01/2021 19:37

Bored, lonely, occasional weeping.

Norwayreally · 23/01/2021 19:41

Cleaning the house, we always go for a walk and try to find somewhere different each time locally although this is wearing thin, baking, watching films.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/01/2021 19:47

Usually about a million loads of laundry. 2 out of 3 kids are in school so have uniform and pe kits to get done.

May do some internet shopping, usually have our supermarket delivery.

Today I organised a corner of the lounge to fit a proper desk in to, and went to meet a friend who loaned me an office chair as after almost a year working from home and sitting on a dining chair my body is beginning to feel broken. I then went online and ordered a desk to pick up on monday.

Other than that it's usually just eating, drinking and watching telly or DH plays his xbox. I teach/take part in zoom karate lessons some sunday mornings.

BackBoiler · 23/01/2021 19:48

We cook something different, DS1 (12) and I, a takeaway type meal. Today we have done sweet and sour crispy pork with egg fried rice. We feed the younger two, shower and get them settled and then we eat the "fakeaway". Sunday we have a walk and do a roast or some other type of meaty comfort food. Afternoon tea type thing later on and pamper night!

CremeEggThief · 23/01/2021 19:56

I'm still working out of the home and spend up to 3 hours a day travelling on the bus, so in one respect I'm lucky that I need the time at the weekend just to recharge and never feel bored.

I always stay in bed until between 10 and 11 a.m. Saturdays, I do most of the laundry, partake of the shopping delivery and put it away, try to get up to date on any life admin/finances/spreadsheets, etc., try to do a cleaning job or two (today was cleaning the fridge, the microwave and the hob and splashback) and if the weather's okay, go for a walk. Then I like to curl up for a while and read, daydream and sometimes nap, followed by either oven pizza or a take away, a BBC4 drama and usually Match of the Day and a bit of late night You Tube.
Sundays, I always hoover and clean the bathroom and aim to mop, do the rest of the laundry, go for a short walk if I didn't manage it on Saturday and sometimes make a veggie Sunday dinner. And relax.

Itsjusttoohard · 23/01/2021 19:56

Sometimes I don't know how I had time for the busybfun weekends I used to have, I seem to be filling the days. I classic case of the task expanding to fill the time available.

Today I have:

Done yoga online
Been for a run
Done the food shopping and taken some to a vulnerable person
Watched football online (would normally be at the game)
Cooked dinner
Done a bit of tidying

I planned to iron too but somehow didn't have time and I'm not starting now

Tomorrow I will do the yoga, a longer run. Rest and maybe get into that ironing pile.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/01/2021 19:57

I spend my weekends looking forward to work on Monday.

Glitterblue · 23/01/2021 20:02

Today we had a lie in, did some housework, went for a walk by our house (in the country, didn't meet a single person other than the farmer who drove past us) then did the weekly food shop tonight when it was quieter. Now about to watch a movie. Tomorrow will probably be similar, without the food shop. Might do some baking with DD and play one of the board games she got for Christmas or try her bath bomb making set.

QueenofLouisiana · 23/01/2021 20:02

Get into local market town for about 10am, we buy most of our food there (and a delivery from the greengrocer’s stall) and have gone every week since March. I don’t miss the supermarket at all, but it was pretty chilly in the queue for the butcher today.

I took my parents their food and collected stuff that they need me to take to the tip. I drop food in each week and check they are ok. They’ve barely left home in months- no sign of a jab yet.

My book box subscription arrived today, so I’ve read a book- really enjoyed it, I’m new to the box and it’s one where you don’t choose, you get surprises by less well known authors.

DH watched football, DS gamed and chatted to mates. DS takes Saturday off and then studies on Sundays.

Tomorrow, my natural father will ring, same time each week as the time difference between countries makes this difficult.

Then I’ll hop back onto a laptop, record lessons, mark online work, try and plan how to make sure everything is accessible to all children, with whatever support/ device/ learning environment they have at home.

That’s it. Every weekend.

KindKylie · 23/01/2021 20:04

The house, garden, garage, pets are all getting a lot of attention!

We're all exercising a lot too - dog walks, bike rides, online work outs and trampolining/basketball in the garden.

Food is more of a focus now we're not busy, so we're having more interesting breakfast - cinnamon buns, pancakes, waffles etc or having a cooked brunch type thing, and proper Sunday roast each weekend.

England101 · 23/01/2021 20:31

I’m an NHS worker so I’m working a lot of weekends and as our annual leave has been cancelled we a working a lot. When I am off I’m taking time to improve my knowledge with online webinars and courses. In the hope that once we’re out the other side I will be a better more well rounded practitioner 🤞🏽I also catch up friends and started yoga. I actually feel busier now!!

CherryRoulade · 23/01/2021 20:33

Have a few work calls each weekend but try to avoid doing too much.
Swim/dip
Longer dog walk
Zoom coffee with friends
Weekend jobs around the house and garden
Nicer meal
FaceTime children and in-laws
Practice piano
A bit of work on my own books and website.
Bananagram, Sequence or other games with our daughter.
Daily dance.

whoamongstus · 23/01/2021 20:35

More naps, more TV, some freelance, some painting/knitting/gaming.

I'm bored of it now, and I only started missing people about a month ago ha.

CosmicComfort · 23/01/2021 20:37

I am working long hours and mostly knackered so my weekends off are incredibly lazy. I crochet and watch Netflix or iPlayer etc.....

I wish I could motivate myself to go out for walks but it’s cold and miserable and I am fed up of the same walks.

My dses are older teens so they do their own thing. DH does the housework thankfully.

I miss meals out and nights away😢.......

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 23/01/2021 20:43

More than a bit samey. Spent Saturday doing housework (because we stood the cleaner down) and cooking. DH will do his share tomorrow (including a Sunday roast) while I catch up on some work in the morning and go out for a walk with a friend in the afternoon. DS is applying for jobs and talking to friends on t'Internet.

I'm going to clean the sealant round the bath tonight.

Our lives are just a round of thrills.

mamaduckbone · 23/01/2021 20:48

Walks, get a coffee to takeaway, make a nice brunch, have a lie-in, read a book during the day.
We've also started getting a bit dressed up on a Saturday night (by that I just mean not PJs or joggers!) having a nice meal then doing something that doesn't involve staring at phones - a game, film, music. It was ds15's idea and it genuinely does give us all something to look forward to.

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/01/2021 20:57

Dog walks, occasional baking, lots of netflix and cuddles with puppies. Dh bought me a switch for Christmas and Ff7 and Ff8 remastered so I've begun playing that.
