to be slightly terrified by people who think the Magna Carta is still sovereign and that the government is operating under maritime law?

And that birth certificates are invalid and steal your identity as a free human Hmm

I keep being recommended a FB group that 3 of my possibly soon to be ex "friends" (people I went to school with and my ex partners sister) have joined and it's a whole new sort of batshittery Confused

I just don't understand why anyone believes this? They're all on about not registering babies and swearing oaths to barons and standing under common law and it's just SO MUCH BOLLOCKS that I'm genuinely baffled as to why thousands of people are taking it seriously. It's quite scary seeing how taken in they all are.

It's all also connected to the QAnon bollocks that I hope will fade away now they've realised there was no miracle yesterday and Trump really isn't President anymore. (Which is also connected to Scientology and other such lunacy)

CutsOffCorners · 21/01/2021 17:30

@OwlWearingGlasses

Why are you terrified? Are they outside your door shaking their spears? There are all sorts of crazies around. Just look on here. People make up all sorts of nonsense just to annoy a particular group.
Because this is the sort of mindset that leads to scenes like what we saw at the Capitol the other week? It's all part of the same conspiraloon bollocks as Qanon.

Bonkers is as bonkers does.

blacksax · 21/01/2021 17:34

@Blacktothepink

Basically none of them want to pay any bills 🤣
You've hit the nail on the head there.

Yep yep yep.

We had a parent years ago tried to pull this shite, mainly to explain why his dearest child didn’t have to do work, follow school rules, homework, uniform. Apparently there was a meeting with our quite volatile head where he explained if he didn’t he was welcome to withdraw him, if he wrote a letter etc which he refused because, names etc. (Plus he couldn’t be arsed to do the work involved) Long suffering mum eventually left him along with dc. The child was a delight, took after his dad.

OhBabooahka · 21/01/2021 17:50

Dear god Op, you've sent me down a rabbit hole of idiocy reading posts on there. I may be there a while 😂

SionnachRua · 21/01/2021 17:52

I do love a bit of batshittery tbh. I joined UsForThem on FB and /r/Parlerwatch on reddit. 10/10 entertainment.

But yeah, those freemen on the land types are nuttier than squirrel shite.

bellropes · 21/01/2021 17:58

Just as an aside, the QAnon people are known as QCumbers on Reddit 😆😆😆

DappledThings · 21/01/2021 18:01

YABU to be terrified of them. YANBU to find them hilariously bonkers.

I've seen one who refused to have his child weighed at birth because that weight is what is recorded as your personal % of the national debt and against the government's stocks of gold. Which is the origin of the phrase "worth your weight in gold".

The way they claim that all words have a secret meaning like the birth/berth thing is my favourite bit of it.

Lillyhatesjaz · 21/01/2021 18:06

As long as they are doing their archery practice there's nothing to worry about

LonginesPrime · 21/01/2021 18:09

The worst part is that someone on that Facebook group appears to be charging people for the 'necessary' forms.

PhatPhanny · 21/01/2021 18:13

I only clicked here because in my tired state I thought you meant Kama Sutra ha, Ive no time for these conspiracy theorists, Ive cut out too many people over lockdown for they crazy they spout.

OlympicProcrastinator · 21/01/2021 18:25

Ooh I’ve infiltrated ‘crunchy mums’ ‘drama’ American Facebook group. Full on anti-vax ‘don’t breed if you can’t feed’, rub patchouli oil on your face and say kum by ya if your child has sepsis, kind of group. Doctors don’t know what they are talking about, Brittney, 18 from Texas knows better and her 9 kids each carry guns in their nappies to ‘stop the guvvunmint takin ova’.

I had to post a (obviously fake) picture of my baby in a rear facing seat and sling and call formula poison before I could join. (Just for shits and giggles)

I was bored that day. Grin

Avonandice · 21/01/2021 18:39

If they believe that a birth certificate gives the goverment possesion of the child can I send them my teenager who has been a total pain this last week?

Yes, what exactly is the returns policy? Do we need to pay postage?

The world has quite a few Thicky McThickersons ...

wonkylegs · 21/01/2021 19:08

And the past 12months seems to have brought more of them out into the open

Sparrowfeeder · 21/01/2021 19:13

It’s been around for a few years now. Gives us lawyers a lot of laughs, particularly when raised in a court case.

Empty vessels make the loudest noise.

Thick twats.

THisbackwithavengeance · 21/01/2021 19:48

I knew someone like this once.

He refused to pay bills and rent on some Ancient England /medieval law bullshit basis.

He claimed to be disabled and used to stride around the neighbourhood brandishing a walking stick. Funnily enough he claimed benefits as neither he nor his wife worked despite professing not to be part of society.

I thought he was just off his head. I didn't realise this was an actual thing.

😂

One of the more prominent ones claimed a couple of months ago he had been to ‘common law court’ and secured an arrest warrant for Matt Hancock that would be served a few days later. Still waiting...
