Do you have ''your chair'', where you always sit, and no one else sits, or do you all sit in different places each day?

In your living room this is.

YANBU = i have my own chair (and no one else sits in it)
YABU = we all swap around and everyone sits anywhere.

Further more (if you like to elaborate) :

  • Do the whole family have their own chair?
  • What happens if you get fed up with 'your' seat. Is it tough luck?
  • Do you have control over moving the furniture round if you get bored or do you have to have a family conference about it?

One person has their armchair.

Then there's the sofa and another armchair. The other two people in the house keep getting up earlier and earlier to secure the sofa for the day and not the "shit chair" Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 21/01/2021 16:35

This is my chair (after 5pm).

And before 7am

Do you have ''your chair'', where you always sit, and no one else sits, or do you all sit in different places each day?
Laiste · 21/01/2021 16:38

Yes our dinning room seats are orgainised around youngest DC.SO me and DH either side for what ever needs doing.

''shit chair'' Grin Reminds me; DD2, when she was very young (6/7) (early 2000s) would get up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday to secure her place at the PS1.

I always sit in the same place in the kitchen or sitting room. I feel weird sitting in a different place 😂

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/01/2021 16:42

Ive just realised everyone has except me. I just get whatevers left.

Sheleg · 21/01/2021 16:47

My chair is the leather armchair, although that cat doesn't seem to have got the memo. I only have to be out of it for five seconds before he commandeers it. The cheek.

LadyCatStark · 21/01/2021 16:47

DH has his place. DS and I both want to claim the same spot so we have an ongoing battle. DS’s usual trick is to get on the chair with me then wait til I have to get up and then spread out so I can’t get back on.

hiredandsqueak · 21/01/2021 16:47

Yes the chair and footstool is mine, it's called Mum's/Granny's chair. Nobody else sits in it. Dd prefers the two seater sofa and that leaves the three seater sofa for the dog when she isn't on my footstool anyway.
We also sit in the same seats around the dining table as well.

Goneback2school · 21/01/2021 16:47

There is one armchair that's the preference for everyone when watching tv. Quite often there are 2 or 3 people on that one chair, completely ignoring the sofa and other armchair in the room. Its first come first served there. At the table, everyone has their own spot and it causes consternation if someone sits elsewhere. In my parents house we all still have our spots at the table despite us all leaving 15yrs+ ago.

Lucieintheskye · 21/01/2021 16:48

@Laiste

Lucieintheskye no specific side of the bed?!
I'm sorry I'm sorry!

We have the same phone, so same chargers, our bedside table contents just get passed from side to side and I keep my dressing gown on the bench at the bottom of the bed so even that doesn't dictate a side!

I usually sleep on DH so we're both very central. We're Switzerland!

PattyPan · 21/01/2021 16:52

No designated seats here, either in the living room or at the dining table. It’s a free for all... between the two of us Grin

safclass · 21/01/2021 17:05

We pretty much have our own seats but since arrival of puppy this can change at times.
BUT.... The thing I find really weird are those couples who DO NOT have their own side of the bed! And sometimes swap depending on Who goes to bed first!!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 21/01/2021 17:09

I have a very small sofa to myself (cannot bring myself to type "cuddle chair" ) I will shove up for a cat or someone to come look at something on the laptop but no permanent sharing. Mostly the cats like to sit on the back of the chair though, this is PrimoPosition as far as they are concerned.

Dh sits on the chesterfield sofa, usually with the cat who has not dibbsed the PrimoPosition

DS2 tends to sit on the other sofa in the window, but has to share with the dog.

Table wise we just sit anywhere really.
Bed wise...I have my side, but it's not always the same side in different beds. iyswim. I am a bed hogger though so no matter what I do tend to end up in the middle.

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 21/01/2021 17:09

Dinner table - everyone has their own spot.

Lounge everyone likes the right side of the sofa. So it's a 5second rule, you move you loose type deal.

Springersrock · 21/01/2021 17:14

Yes.

One end of the sofa and the footstool is mine. DH has the other end.

There’s always a bit of a squabble over my end, but ultimately I always win (by standing in front of the tv until whoever is sitting there moves) Grin

The dog is always in my seat, but she gets scooted up to the middle

BillyAndTheSillies · 21/01/2021 17:37

I have worn down my side of the sofa to perfection. DS1 is often known to roll in to the divot I've created and I'll let him stay there but that's where I draw the line,
Can't get comfortable anywhere else in my living room. No other sofa corners are worn down quite as well!

Farewell2020 · 21/01/2021 17:42

I have my sofa. My DH has his sofa.

Our two adult DC fit in wherever.

At one stage we had to fit around the dog lounging on sofa Grin

caringcarer · 21/01/2021 18:28

DH has his own chair, I have large sofa, son has small sofa, adult son has large chair too.

Sparklesocks · 21/01/2021 18:50

My DP have our own ends of the sofa, just as important as our own sides of the bed.

OliviaKeeling · 21/01/2021 18:57

Own preferred seat in lounge, own place at table, own side of bed. DH would argue that I take the middle 50% of the bed though leaving him hanging on the side though... I dispute that vehemently. Grin

LindaEllen · 21/01/2021 19:03

We all have our own places in the living room. For goodness knows what reason, if I'm in the bath or something, DSS moves to my chair. He always moves back when I come downstairs, but I'm not sure why he'd move there for half an hour. It's not a better view of the TV, or comfier, or anything. Just weird!

zukiecat · 21/01/2021 19:08

There's only DD and me, and we have two, two seater sofas.

I sit on mine and DD sits on here, we have our own seats at the dining table too.

Laiste · 21/01/2021 19:12

These little details of peoples lives and routines are strangely fascinating and amusing aren't they? Grin

The bed thing: DH and i stick to 'our' side of the bed, but that does change when we change houses/bed rooms. I usually like the side furthest from the door, although in the room we're in right now i couldn't settle that side. After a week i had to ask him to swap, then i slept fine Confused
