Great post
RedTB, exactly the way Twitter should be used. It is a valuable source and anyone who doesn't use it but comes on a longstanding thread saying we can't use it as a source from now on... well... obviously they don't know much.
Through the life of these threads for the last 5 years we have done our best to be as accurate as possible which is why we had a paper written on us entitled “Citizen Curation” in Online Discussions of Donald Trump’s Presidency" by two Professors.
^Having acknowledged the selective subjectivity of the curatorial process performed by our participants, and how far our
participants are willing to go to validate news stories shared in this way, we argue that our participants demonstrated a clear awareness of the veracity and potential subjectivity of their sources, worked collaboratively to verify news items, and were proud of their ability to “scoop”the mainstream news media on occasion^
Participants were encouraged not to take the word of other posters about a source but to read and research for themselves. Commenting on an ABC News interview with Trump, a poster provided a link to the transcript of the interview, encouraging others to“read it and judge for yourself”. Another participant encouraged others to read an article on a law blog with the words “Long article but worth reading”. Others followed up their original posts with links to further sources in order to verify what was claimed
We come out of it well. Just a small sample of what was said above. The paper talks extensively about Twitter and how far we go to verify, check and double check statements we make.
I have a copy if anyone wants it.
