It’s very interesting how Joe Biden and John McCain used to sit together until they were told by both leaderships that they couldn’t sit together any more.

Apropos of that, one of the most startling - and memorable and glimmers of hope photographs I've seen in the past 20 years is of the late Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness leaving a function and clearly sharing a (possibly off-colour ) joke. Bearing in mind they would happily have seen the other dead for more of their lives than not.

Maybe it's hypocritical, or maybe it reflects the higher standards I expect of my representatives, but while I'm allowed to be dogmatic, I prefer it less in politicians
