To think this is intentional- Virgin Media

Finally got through to the right department after being sent around the houses. I tell them I want to reduce my package to just internet. Confirm there is nothing that'll change my mind. Put on hold while she "sees what she can do".

Then I get "the other person has cleared".

It's taken over an hour to get to this point and now I've got to start again. It was done purposely in the hope I give up, right?

Cunts.

Erm I highly doubt you are that special customer that the advisor will risk losing their job for 😂 what an entitled Wally

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 21:06

Obviously I don't think I'm the only person they've done this to... 🙄

I’d be of the same opinion tbh - BT had surprisingly dodgy telephone lines for, y’know, a telephone company.

Biker47 · 19/01/2021 21:11

I wouldn't trust virgin as far as I could throw them, they were all but closed during lock down, took ages to get a reply on their woeful online chat option... that was until you mentioned you definitely wanted to cancel, then boom, call centre has magically just opened back up, on a Wednesday at 2pm, yeah right.

EyeTeeCrowd · 19/01/2021 21:14

We consider going internet-only with Virgin Media every year, but bizarrely the price they offer us is always higher than the basic package we already have, which includes internet, phone line and a Vbox. I think their logic is that people on the pacjage will spend extra cash on phonecalls and premium TV services, but we never do.

It's still worth phoning annually because if they think you've got itchy feet they give a discount (or rather they don't apply quote so much of an annual increase).

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 21:14

I'd get rid of them completely but no one can match their Internet speed in our area and my husband needs it for work.

I really can't face the hassle of that all again but I guess I'll have to.

No interaction I've ever had with virgin media has changed my opinion of them. The numerous times I've spoken to a "customer service advisor" has reinforced what a shower of useless cunts they are.

dchange · 19/01/2021 21:15

Loved this. I am building a fintech start up that will enable you to automatically get the best rates for your current provider or access an alternative with a click. Plus, you will be able to cancel subscriptions with a swipe! No need to wait on a call for 1hr!!!!

You're joking! That's frustrating.

Man alive I'm pleased I no longer work in customer service. Virgin all but closed, erm I'm sure staff would have been isolating or transitioning to working from home while earning a mere pittance Confused

Love2cycle · 19/01/2021 21:18

Someone working from home while looking after young kids would be my first thought. You don't know, someones toddler messing around with call equipment? An accident that advisor had to drop everything to see to?
Reading other threads on here, it's possible.

Whatisthisfuckery · 19/01/2021 21:18

I had the same last week. I wanted to cancel my broadband. It took me 45 minutes for the call to be answered, then the person who answered acted like a 14 year old who’d just been asked to tidy their room, then they put me on hold, then I was cut off.

If they don’t do it on purpose then it’s a funny coincidence that it seems to happen a lot.

Oh, and expect to be called umpteen times by people trying to entice you back. I’ve had three calls in the last week.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/01/2021 21:19

Our package would've been more expensive without the landline phone.
We just don't plug any phones in. Got fed up of the constant blag phone calls from 'BT'.

That sounds amazing.

Can you do it for insurers too so you don't have to phone them about every last little thing? Why don't they have online services to change the car or eg add an extra driver?

Hilda40 · 19/01/2021 21:23

I've just cancelled today. Moved from Virgin at £54 to Vodafone at £20. Virgin tried a best offer of £46. Dream on.

We usually do that, every year without fail, except this year. The internet only was the cheapest at £50! And that was an 18 month contract.

Three DC doing home schooling and various devices connected, I need that speed otherwise I'd go elsewhere, and nowhere matches them locally.

As someone working from home with a young child, I would be sympathetic but this isn't the first time it's happened (which was before the pandemic) and it's happened to someone else on this thread...

I wish a previous Virgin Media agent would do an AMA.

Im stuck with virgin too because we don't have a BT and no one else can get anywhere near their internet speeds. Its all good until you have to contact customer services. Ive had similar to the experiences above.

ElizaLaLa · 19/01/2021 21:28

This is a definite tactic. Not exclusive to virgin media. And I agree they are cunts.

Doggybiccys · 19/01/2021 21:31

I’ve been with loads of providers and find them all much of the same - quite poor. It’s like they put a million people answering the “I want to join virgin” calls and then two taking all the “I want to leave calls”. Sainsbury’s bank were one of the worst for customer service - I don’t think I ever got through in under an hour . And this was all pre covid.

NoToMisogyny · 19/01/2021 21:31

One of the happiest days of my life was when we officially transferred from Virgin to Sky in December. I still can’t believe how blissful it is to be away from them.

It’s got nothing to go with them working from home - for 10 years we stuck with them because of the (often down) broadband - and I reached the point where they could have paid me to use their services and it would have been a no.

Their curtained service is ATROCIOUS, and has been long before covid. Every single person I ever spoke to was rude as fuck, and I lost count of the times I finally got through only for the call to disconnect. Especially when I was trying to leave them! They make leaving TORTUOUS. Cunts.

The customer service at Sky has been awesome. And their broadband has been fine for DH and I working from home and three kids streaming for hours every day.

NoToMisogyny · 19/01/2021 21:32

And it’s not down to individual staff members. Terrible customer service is the company ethos.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 19/01/2021 21:35

I'm about to renegotiate our broadband any day. Fucking dreading it. Been with them years and the speed is the fastest but they are useless twats and expensive

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 21:37

And the bill goes up every few months!

Cunts.

Virgin are the old NTL, they have always been shit for customer service and hanging people on the line until they give up, next time you ring up state you are moving over to BT or another provider you will get a slightly better customer service, but it is still Virgin so it's below par.
