To think this is intentional- Virgin Media

Finally got through to the right department after being sent around the houses. I tell them I want to reduce my package to just internet. Confirm there is nothing that'll change my mind. Put on hold while she "sees what she can do".

Then I get "the other person has cleared".

It's taken over an hour to get to this point and now I've got to start again. It was done purposely in the hope I give up, right?

Cunts.

I got cut off by Virgin media several times. Due to the poor service of Virgin mobile.
I ditched them both. Virgin media to Sky, Virgin mobile to 3mobile.
When querying the poor internet service the customer service agent started arguing with me 😡

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2021 21:42

Probably yes

BlueGreenDreams · 19/01/2021 21:45

When our landlord decided to demolish and redevelop the plot of the property we were renting, it obviously meant we had to move out. Phoned Virgin Media to cancel all services. The man we spoke to was reluctant to let us go so we told him about the demolition.

He actually said, and I quote, "you're not actually moving, are you. You just want a cheaper deal".

Cheeky cunt.

It was a really stressful time as we did not want to move and couldn't afford to do so really and being called a liar on top upset me a lot.

Really put me off ever going back to them ever again.

crimsonlake · 19/01/2021 21:46

Same here I am about to leave as the prices keep going up. Seems to say on the website that you have to cancel in writing and give 30 days notice?
Wondering how easy it is to go with someone else as other companies seem to be saying I need a BT box fitted. I already have a phone line which never appears to have worked. Why do these companies make it so difficult to switch?

princessbananahammock252 · 19/01/2021 21:47

My husband has spent the best part of 2 weeks trying to get a better package from them and then ultimately cancelling. His calls have dropped so many times that it's made my very mildly tempered husband incredibly stressed and pissed off! So I agree, it's a thing with virgin! They even had the nerve to sign us up for another package when he eventually cancelled our account with them! So he had to get on the phone with them again!

copernicium · 19/01/2021 21:48

We switched from virgin to Vodafone and they just send you a new WiFi thing and cables to plug in yourself.

EddieSpaghetti · 19/01/2021 21:52

I'm genuinely sure the people you speak to on the phone aren't doing it deliberately. My last and thankfully final customer service role was for a bank, trust me it's not the advisors choice to tell you what you don't want to hear! As for calling them cunts, well that's rather obscene IMO.

greeneyedlulu · 19/01/2021 21:52

Well if it makes you feel better, the Post Office broadband are just the same. I phoned them to say my mother had passed away and we would need to change the account to my dad's name, the guy on the phone told me he would need permission from the account holder..... my dead mum..... for them to talk to me!! How fucking stupid can you get??

Mistlewoeandwhine · 19/01/2021 21:55

They are famous for bad service. I tutor a boy (online) with woeful WiFi. The family have been trying to end their contract for months and actually can’t get away from it. I would never, ever get Virgin having seen what they’ve been through.

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 21:58

@EddieSpaghetti have I offended you? 🤣

@greeneyedlulu that's awful! Sorry about your mum.

Not at all, I just have sympathy for those working in roles where they are paid shite to listen to moaners.

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 22:03

I didn't moan. I didn't say I moaned. I wasn't rude at all. I actually try very hard to be polite and courteous to everyone (while reserving the right to call them a cunt behind their backs).

I explained I what I wanted to do and was put on hold and then cut off. After over an hour, it's extremely frustrating. Cunts.

I coincidentally found this thread after an infuriating experience yesterday. Wanted to cancel as package will increase by £50 as of next month; no live chat facility, no email adress, direct messaging on Twitter is disabled. And the phone was just cutting out. Customers are literally held hostage to these deals as you cannot cancel. When I finally got the call to connect I sat on hold for 45 minutes, only to be answered then put on hold again, and then told i have to cancel EXACTLY 30 days before, or I will have to pay a fee. But go a day over the 30 day period, and it isn't sufficient notice. Dire customer service.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 19/01/2021 22:06

I ditched them when I had a crossed line and started getting charged £££ for overseas calls during the day. The person I spoke to established that DD had a key to the house and told me that I didn’t need an engineer because DD was clearly sneaking home to make phone calls. She was in Y6 at the time. But obviously no one would stop her leaving school and coming home to make a 40 minute phone call to the Bahamas at 10:00. This was a much more likely explanation than a crossed line. It took me 2 months to get an engineer out (this was pre-Covid) and a further 4 months to get the charges for rogue phone calls refunded once the engineer established that it was in fact a crossed line. I left as soon as I had the refund.

My apologies, you didn't say you moaned, clearly I am projecting, again I am sorry for that assumption.
BoomBoomsCousin · 19/01/2021 22:10

This happened with me when I tried to cancel with Virgin 5 years ago. Infuriating.

Nat6999 · 19/01/2021 22:12

I'm just cancelling Plusnet, I've been paying £35 a month for a service that is slower than a snail. Going back to Sky when I get sorted & will manage with mobile data until then.

FourOnTheHill · 19/01/2021 22:18

This happened to us last week. Dh spent all morning getting cut off every time he said we were cancelling the service.

reallyjustreally · 19/01/2021 22:21

I had the same about 2yrs ago with virgin. I was cancelling because I was moving and virgin didn’t supply the area where my new house is (so no moaning and not my choice). Three calls mysteriously “dropped” just at the point when I wanted to cancel. In the end I had to raise a complaint.

Cuntitinthebin · 19/01/2021 22:24

Genuinely, I was very polite. I used to work in a shoe shop over the summer holidays - I've experienced the other side! Apology accepted.

It's interesting that it's happening so often to others, though.

I’m still full of rage over how shit virgin are and I’ve not been with them for about 6 years

Badoukas · 19/01/2021 22:30

I was dreading the annual negotiation on price phone call that I have to make every December with Virgin. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. Had to speak to 2 people and hang on maybe 10 mins in total but deal struck no problems.

C8H10N4O2 · 19/01/2021 22:30

I'd get rid of them completely but no one can match their Internet speed in our area and my husband needs it for work

What level of speed does he actually need though? The days when Virgin (or rather its predecessors) were the only really fast connection are gone in most areas. If you can get decent enough speed with the competition I'd go for it.

Virgin customer support is famously absolutely shit. Their third line support for technical issues has been worse than useless, not to mention sexist, when I've used it. If you are lucky and get through to one of the few on shore technical teams it can be much better but its near impossible to get them.

Literally the only reason I still have a Virgin connection is that I'm in an early upgrade area, within a few metres of the junction box and relatively few houses per junction box so very few issues with the line itself. BT options still don't match up for speed and stability on my rooad (and the alternatives are just rebadged BT).

The day someone offers a matching connection they won't see me for dust.

Ruddyfedup · 19/01/2021 22:31

Weq4u app, saves you sat on hold, listening to mundane music. Been using it for years, its bloody brilliant

Cassimin · 19/01/2021 22:36

I feel your pain.
It took me 2 days to cancel after being cut off numerous times, getting passed from department to department and being kept on hold so long that I had to hang up or I would have missed the school run.
I’m now on sky with my broadband and bought a box to record tv.
I will never go back to virgin. They made it so difficult to leave.
