Finally got through to the right department after being sent around the houses. I tell them I want to reduce my package to just internet. Confirm there is nothing that'll change my mind. Put on hold while she "sees what she can do".

Then I get "the other person has cleared".

It's taken over an hour to get to this point and now I've got to start again. It was done purposely in the hope I give up, right?

Cunts.

Tried to cancel virgin tonight because despite having the ‘350’ (might as well be called Dave or Eric as the number means f all) I have 26mbps. Trying to teach live lessons (which tbf worked fine last March) at the same time as my children are on live lessons (which they weren’t last year) has meant using a mobile phone hotspot! BT at least guarantee 23 or money.
She put me through to the ‘faults’ department and after waiting 30 minutes, I gave up. Half the price for BT. (Although annoyingly I need to call again to cancel)

Not at all, I just have sympathy for those working in roles where they are paid shite to listen to moaners

The attitude that customers are just an inconvenience who moan is the hallmark of Virgin customer service and has been for years. I was an early adopter of cable and once enjoyed great customer service. Then NTL bought the cable company and subsequently became part of Virgin. Its been dreadful ever since.

I'm unfailingly polite to customer service people, I'm quite aware the money is often poor and they don't set the stupid policies. In most companies the CSAs do at least try to do what they can.

Virgin are simply rude and incompetent. One of my all time favourites was the third line support to told me the problem was with Windows (I didn't have) and asked to speak to my husband as obviously it was too technical for me. Another favourite was the supposedly third line expert tech support who told me "linux doesn't work on the internet" - another tech expert who couldn't conceive of anyone not using Windows and whose knowledge of networks was non existent.

They are horrendous

We are now dealing with them through Cisas. Caused such stress for my elderly relative.

I tried to reduce my package and the cost, only really needed broadband but would pay to keep the telly if they offered a decent deal. Got messed about on the call, eventually got annoyed and told them to cancel the full thing. This was with 28 days notice, about 10 days later (when I was in the process of sorting out new broadband and almost signed with Vodafone) got a call from the retention team. Offered a great deal, £30ish saving and pretty much the same product. Stupid way to run a business if you ask me but it worked out ok for me this time.

@redsquirrelfan insurance on the list. The weird one is home insurance where people are paying 2 lots of home insurance. Crazy!!!

@LeroyJenkinssss

I’d be of the same opinion tbh - BT had surprisingly dodgy telephone lines for, y’know, a telephone company.
We found that with BT. Back then, (and perhaps still, I'm not sure) they had a "we'll solve your issue in 20 minutes" so at the 20 minute mark, whether the issue was solved or they had barely began to scratch the surface or getting it sorted. I think they shut the calls down so they didn't get hassle for not meeting targets. I wouldn't be surprised it BT wasn't alone in doing that.

I’m the same I dread the end of contract date as it’s nothing but hassle. It’s jumped up from £45 to £61 for basic everything. Sky are offering a better package including Netflix for £39, it’s a no brainier really isn’t it. Just double checking that sky are a better company to deal with than virgin.
It’s the same with insurance companies too though. I had renewal through for £350, rang them and they could only get £10;off the price. Then went back on gocompare and got equal policy for £180! I can’t believe the difference between them.

We've been with Virgin for years.. well since it was NTL. Generally the speed is good and as we don't have a BT line in we have stayed. But we don't want a phone line ..who uses one these days? And we don't watch sports or much TV ..all I want is good fst Broadband. Will they give me that standalone? Will they fuck!
The most irritating thing is the constant calls to try and get us to upgrade our basic package. DH actually enjoys these calls.. he lets them witter on and then step by step takes their 'look at these great savings' speech apart until they admit that it's not a saving at all. I think he finds it therapeutic...

One day I will leave but I just can't face the hassle!
