Are phone repair shops really shut or is he giving an excuse?

Asking for my friend, she can’t find a clear answer anywhere and is going mad.

She’s been seeing a bloke for 6 months. For about 2 weeks he’s been silent except for a conspicuous “I’ll be back soon” message on social media 2 days ago. She asked what was going on, and he’s just said his phone is broken and all of the repair shops are shut.

So, in short, can anybody answer this? Thanks

Sounds like load of parp. He is making excuses...

Even if the phone IS broke and not repairable for a few weeks, he could have got a cheap £10 phone from Argos to use in them meantime.

littlepattilou · 19/01/2021 20:18

in THE meantime! (not them meantime.)

Fb page of our local phone repair shop

“Please share This Post
We are open for repair only short hours due to lock down
and repairs few things only like
iPhones screen battery Samsung’s screen this is the parts we can get at this moment thank you”

@littlepattilou

Precisely my thoughts. I feel if he really wanted to talk to her he’d find a way. Unfortunately she is madly in love with him and I don’t know if I have the heart to say that to her.

She'll see the light for herself at some point. Let her get on with it.

feelingverylazytoday · 19/01/2021 20:26

The phone repair shops in my town are shut at the moment.

LIZS · 19/01/2021 20:28

Many work from home.

Theunamedcat · 19/01/2021 20:29

Ours are shut but running from Facebook offering a collection/drop off service but if you have Facebook messenger that's accessible from a laptop an ipad tablet you can buy a burner for twenty quid he just doesn't want to speak to her

whereismormonjesus · 19/01/2021 20:37

Tbh he lives in Birmingham city centre so I highly doubt there isn’t somewhere open he could sort his phone out. He’s lied to her before but she makes excuses for him.

Sigh. I don’t know what to tell her, bless her. Her relationship with this man has helped her recover from a really horrible messy divorce with an abusive twat.

My DP had his screen replaced yesterday after ringing 4 different phone shops to get prices. All were open normal hours, but were not accepting walk ins/allowing people to enter or wait in the shops. I’m sorry but it sounds like an excuse to me.

Whatsmyusername30 · 19/01/2021 20:47

A phone shop in my area is still open but not int the normal way. You cannot go into the shop but can drop off devices to be fixed and collect from outside. Or they can pick up and deliver back to you. It’s an independent repair shop.

Sounds like it could be an excuse

Ameliablue · 19/01/2021 21:00

Doesn't sound likely, there are places available to get repairs and there are other methods of communication.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 19/01/2021 21:08

The phone shop in our local Tesco is open, so I'd assume there are others open too.

Theunamedcat · 20/01/2021 00:30

They are open in Birmingham we passed one the other day

sortmylifeoutplease · 20/01/2021 02:36

We had to get a repair last week and found one near us.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/01/2021 07:36

How did he reply to her that his phone is broken? And what is stopping him using that particular method of communication to talk to her generally?

SaltyTootsieToes · 21/01/2021 00:03

Those near us were closed in the first lock down but not since. All open now. My DD has twice had new screens now a new phone
