Building work problems

Hi

AIBU to text our builder at 22.30? We are currently getting a loft conversion and in heavy rain tonight we have heard a loud bang, smelt smoke, there is water running out of DS bedroom light fitting and the lights have fused. I have text the builder to ask them to send someone ASAP in the morning to check it out (they weren't due to be in site tomorrow due to the bad weather) AIBU?

Thanks

YANBU but a pipe may have burst. Do you maybe also need a plumber now?

DH is a builder, I would definitely expect a client to text under those circumstances! I'd just be glad you didn't phone - and I wouldn't blame you if you had phoned. A decent builder won't want to leave it to get worse for a couple of days before acting on the problem.

I hope it's an easy fix for you!

Thanks so much that's really put my mind at rest I didn't want them thinking we're awkward already as we're only week two of a five months build Confused

It's one company doing the full work builder plumber electrician etc so I hoped by texting the project manager they will send whoever we need ASAP in the morning as I'm worried about rut damage it's doing x

Sounds like a small leak in the roof has allowed water into your lighting circuit . Don’t panic , it’s not major and easily fixed . Do not touch light fitting or fuse board . If I was doing the work I’d be glad to receive the text (even late at night ) so I’d know what I was likely to be dealing with before I got on site and what materials / tools I might need if I was packing the van .

Thanks Ringshanks that's good to hear, the builders have been in touch and are on their way so hopefully it will all be sorted today. It's all new to us so we definitely did panic!
