Please humour me.

I've very little going on right now other than homeschool Wink

Adding some laundry bits to my click and collect.

What should I order to make ours clothes (and home while they dry) smell amazing?

Fabric conditioner is full of chemical which are bad for your health, and may be carcinogenic. Plus it is detrimental to the ecological systems in our rivers. Once you give it up, you realise how slimey it makes everything. Plus, as everyone knows, it shouldn't be used on towels if you want to keep them absorbent.

My top tip would just be to dry everything outside as much as you can, it smells wonderful.

beckyohecky · 19/01/2021 09:31

Sorry if I’m being thick.. where does the essential oil go, if you use that as an alternative to fabric conditioner? (What’s the rinse drawer?!)

And just to be absolutely sure - are we talking about the same kind of essential oils that go in my diffuser?

Roselilly36 · 19/01/2021 09:41

Bold 3 in 1 liquid, summer breeze is my favourite.

Coldilox · 19/01/2021 09:57

I use Bold but am thinking I want to change to a plain detergent and maybe a small amount of zoflora for scent.

I line dry where possible but living in Manchester it’s frequently not possible!

Coldilox · 19/01/2021 09:58

I’m assuming zoflora is fine and doesn’t stain fabrics or anything?

NoPupIsTooSmall · 19/01/2021 10:09

I'm going to try the vinegar, will try to get some today. Always worried I'll smell like a poke of chips but I'll give it a go Grin

Pumpkinpied · 19/01/2021 10:25

Tablespoon of Persil, half a tablespoon of washing soda (far cheaper than bicarbonate you cook with) and half a cup of white vinegar (40p a bottle in Tesco.) For any stains I use a spot of green Fairy Liquid. The washing is always clean, soft and smells lovely.

Comefromaway · 19/01/2021 10:28

I've not tried white vinegar but I have very hard water so run a hot bicarb wash every month.

Dh & dd are allergic to most scented products.

becky
It's the drawer where you'd normally put fabric conditioner.
(Which probably isn't called 'rinse drawer' at all but correct name won't come to mind).

Yes pure peppermint oil. & You really do only need to use 2-3 drops, no more than that. Buy a 100ml bottle, it'll last for ages.

Around here price is around £3.99. You can buy on Amazon although I seem to recall it costs more

Tangledtresses · 19/01/2021 13:43

@banivani

I don’t do this myself, but in my youth I lived in France for a few months and was introduced to eau de linge. Basically scented water (alcohol I think) that you spray lightly on stuff while you’re ironing it. It smells nice, like posh French babies. Grin
I was going to suggest that too it's so lovely! Especially on line dried duvet covers heaven!
Tangledtresses · 19/01/2021 13:47

I wash my sons socks separately 🤣 so I'm going to try with the vinegar!
I'll try anything

Grapewrath · 19/01/2021 14:01

Ariel and sunshiny days or lenor ocean
Bold camomile and lavender with lemon calm
Fairy and fairy softener

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 19/01/2021 16:24

Gold unstoppable s for bedding (having trouble getting them at moment so have blue) Dettol laundry cleaner in rinsing drawer for everything else.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2021 16:28

I used to find white vinegar gave a better smell than fabric softener. It seems to bring out the smell in the washing powder.

Always use powder rather than liquid, keeps the machine fresher.

Bold lavender 2 in 1 is the best smelling powder, IMO. I miss it so much!

However the biggest thing that makes the difference, that I don't have, is a tumble drier.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2021 16:29

You can defo buy ironing water in the UK! I used to get that too!

IMissFrance · 19/01/2021 16:31

@BewareTheBeardedDragon

Agree re. White vinegar. The super cheap white distilled vinegar which sells for 42p for a bottle at Tesco, at the bottom of the shelf - foot level. NOT white wine vinegar! It doesn't smell of anything at the end of the wash and removes lingering odours from the clothes.
Hi @BewareTheBeardedDragon

This is the only one I can get on my order - is it the right stuff?

Bio powder and blue Lenor.

shouldistop · 19/01/2021 16:56

I love the smell of dettol laundry cleanser

happymummy12345 · 19/01/2021 16:58

I only ever use fairy non bio because I hate strong smelling washing where the smell lingers

Maladicta · 19/01/2021 17:20

I'm addicted to Savon de Marseille and have just run out of the Carrefour supply I bought in France during the Summer so am trying out the Surf version I found on Amazon. I tried Ariel liquitabs as a stop gap, never again - way too strong a smell.

Thelnebriati · 19/01/2021 18:52

@IMissFrance Yes thats the stuff, distilled white vinegar. It has almost no odour, you can use it for loads of cleaning jobs.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 19/01/2021 18:54

@IMissFrance yes! That's the one I use!

SimonJT · 19/01/2021 18:56

We use ecozone bio liquid with their tallow free fabric softener.

Throughhistory · 20/01/2021 13:43

Is it tallow that makes anything with fabric conditioner so slimey? I had no idea. Rendered animal fat on my clothes and bed linen...nice.
AngusThermopyle · 20/01/2021 19:41

@Overoptimistix er have you read the 8 product safety warnings on that Fresh linen oil 😮
