Please humour me.

I've very little going on right now other than homeschool Wink

Adding some laundry bits to my click and collect.

What should I order to make ours clothes (and home while they dry) smell amazing?

Ariel powder and Lenor gold orchid. I live in a very very hard water area, and white vinegar isn’t enough to soften the clothes. I use a small amount - maybe half a capful per wash. Laundry still smells good.

LaTomatina · 18/01/2021 20:03

Recent convert to eco balls.. 2 balls cost about the same as your average box of powder/bottle of liquid and will supposedly last for 500 washes per ball. No smell, just clean. Sometimes use about a tablespoon of usual liquid/powder if something is really soiled, but for usual day to day stuff it's fine on it's own.

wheretogothisyear · 18/01/2021 20:06

Just was
Ndering id anyone has used the Kirkland liquid detergent foe washing clothes from Costco. It's seems such a good price, but I've never used it before ?thanks
And I use abs love the smell of Persil non bio liquid with the blue coloured Lenor ( can't remember the name)

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 18/01/2021 20:10

My friend always has lovely smelling laundry, I always mean to ask her what she uses. Probably a lot of chemicals from the smell of it but it does smell lovely!

I don't use fabric softener as it made everything all slimy in the machine, I want to try unstoppables but they are just so chemically. Vinegar is good but it's doesn't give that lovely laundry smell that I crave!

Sgtmajormummy · 18/01/2021 20:27

I live in a very hard water area which can make whites go dingy. A tiny scoop of Vanish pink powder (or Lidl’s equivalent) cures and avoids that problem.
Instead of using conditioner for the smell, I put fresh soap bars among the clothes. Once the bar has dried out it lasts longer in the bathroom.
When DC were little I used talcum powder fragranced Comfort on their baby clothes. So evocative!

One fragrance I really dislike on clothes is Savon de Marseille. It smells only partially washed, as if there’s oily scum still on it.

Squiffany · 18/01/2021 20:40

Lavender Dettol rinse stuff. Started using it since working with COVID patients to make my uniform feel extra clean even with a high temperature wash and now use it on everything.

TaraR2020 · 18/01/2021 20:43

Hang it outdoors.

I know, i know, it's January...But I still find that if freshly washed linen is aired outside for a couple of hours before being brought into dry it smells divine.

mortensmike · 18/01/2021 20:51
@mortensmike the conditioner goes in the little one in the middle
thank you Squidgy

Tomnooktoldmeto · 18/01/2021 21:00

I only use soap nuts due to asthma and allergies, clothes smell of absolutely nothing, on the rare occasions of smelly laundry I put half a cup of white vinegar as mentioned

Everything is clean and fresh for £10 a year and I can breathe still, if you really want a scent you can add 2-3 drops of essential oils to the wash

Hankunamatata · 18/01/2021 21:03

I got eco egg and loving it. I brought one with no smell so pop couple drops of lavender oil in the fabric conditioner draw.

Royalbloo · 18/01/2021 21:08

FuckinGoddess where can you get that from?! Can't find anywhere online...

Royalbloo · 18/01/2021 21:10

WellTidy LOVE lenor gold orchid but it's no good on towels as it stops them absorbing moisture

WellTidy · 18/01/2021 21:20

Royal the gold orchid lenor doesn’t stop the towels absorbing moisture here. It may be because our water is so incredibly hard. Whatever it is, the towels are soft and still properly absorbent.

CorianderBee · 18/01/2021 21:22

I add orange/lemon essential oil as I'm allergic to soaps

FirstladyKirkman · 18/01/2021 21:26

*Goes off to by Comfort Sunshiny Days fabric softener.

Emmie12345 · 18/01/2021 21:33

Fairy hard tablets and Lenor blue is best combo !

bigmistake1 · 18/01/2021 21:33

@AriesTheRam

Fairy powder and Fairy softener
Same. Makes the house smell amazing when it's drying inside.
TheGlitterFairy · 18/01/2021 21:37

Fairy pods and fairy fabric conditioner

houmousexpert · 18/01/2021 23:49

Ecover powder, Method liquid or Astonish liquid, with Ecozone 'Radiance' fabric softener x

Overoptimistix · 18/01/2021 23:51

After reading through the thread, I decided to order some vinegar in bulk and some essential oils. I've taken a gamble on this one: Mystic Moments | Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil - 100ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H995VAY/ref=cmswwrcppapifabccJ2HbGbC92NFVN?encoding=UTF8&psc=1

No idea if it's any good yet but thought it might look exiting to others! I also ordered a lemon essential oil to put in vinegar for household cleaning. Late night browsing on mumsnet is expensive!

Jobsharenightmare · 19/01/2021 08:28

Thanks to PP for the clarification on the white vinegar not white wine vinegar.

Cbd333 · 19/01/2021 08:38

Sorry if I'm being dense - the white vinegar and bicarbonate solution, do you put that in the washing powder drawer or in a detergent ball in the drum itself?

Franticbutterfly · 19/01/2021 08:51

@FuckinGoddess

Very expensive, but Francis Kurkdjian fabric conditioner is divine. I only use it occasionally for my bedding
Something else I now know I need in my life!
DameCelia · 19/01/2021 09:04

Oh dear @Franticbutterfly, Francis Kurkdjian is a very expensive internet rabbit hole to fall down Wink cologne pour le matin is amazing though!!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 19/01/2021 09:08

I use Smol liquid capsules and Fairy fabric softener. Smells lovely and clean. I’d love to ditch the softener but our water is ridiculously hard and it’d be like wearing cardboard clothes.

I’m going to get the Smol fabric softener to try as it’s free of animal fats and other stuff. Hopefully it’ll be ok in my limescale soup of a water supply.
