Working tax credit and free school meals

I'm trying to raise awareness about families who are on working tax credit/child tax credit.

Before covid, they would be £20 a week worse off than if they had been on universal credit.

At the moment both WTC and UC have received a boost of £20 per week due to covid (which is due to end in April 2021).

However, families who are on WTC are still £20 behind those on UC, and they are NOT entitled to free school meals.

If families on WTC switch to UC without being migrated over they will have no money for a minimum of 5-6 weeks. So it isn't as simple as just switching over.

There has been a lot of focus lately on children entitled to free school meals, and quite rightly too. But there are families who are receiving less money and are NOT entitled to free school meals. Also due to covid aren't earning enough and are unable to switch over to UC.

I've created a petition, please can you sign it:

It's all legacy benefits that didn't get the extra cash for covid.

It might be more helpful to link to your petition page so that folks can read it Smile

Not all families on wtc get fsm. When I needed to claim benefits I only got fsm because I was entitled to housing benefit and my income from work dropped to zero. When I started work those benefits dropped off (I still get ctc and wtc but nothing else).

Fsm is not available to everyone on benefits.
