To apply for contact tracer job with no phone experience

I am a supply teacher and with schools being closed, of course there is no work.
My local council are looking for contact tracers but i'm not really sure whether to apply but I want to.

The reason i'm put off is I haven't really had customer experience roles in 5 years. I worked in a supermarket 5 years ago but that's it. Therefore, will I even have a chance if I have no experience of contacting customers over phone?

My time management and verbal and written communication are great being a teacher but i'm not sure if I will even be considered. And if I was to be considered and offered an interview, all I have to really talk about is my teaching and University experience.

Is it worth applying?

Yes. Youve got a lot of "people" experience from teaching and i imagine have a clear voice. Why not apply? They will get hundreds of applications at the moment but give it a go.

But you have bags of people experience! And as a supply teacher you also probably have plenty of patience and resilience. You may not be able conjure up recent customer service skills but you still have them from 5 years ago. Just go for it.

Blimey yes - dealing with people is dealing with people. Just sell yourself hard and tell them that you’ve got all the skills you need.

as a supply teacher you are used to stepping in at short notice and picking up where others have left off.
that shows resilience and flexibility, fitting in to different styles of school management etc.
you are ideally suited. also establishing communication with a wide range of pupils, from different heritages, language backgrounds and abilities.
it should be easy for you to ring strangers, speak politely and get information across. go for it. good luck.
let us know how you get on. maybe i could do it.

Apply nothing lost only apply if you have to ability to switch of and the skin of a rhino .
Should imagine most calls will be challenging no-one wants to be told to stay in for 10 days .
The general pubic can be VERY RUDE AND VERY AGGRESSIVE

My dd applied without any relevant experience and got a full time job. She applied to NHS Scotland although she is living in England.

Definitely apply! You have customer service experience and a teacher needs really good communication skills, so plenty of relevant experience even if not directly telephone based.

Definitely do. I work as a contact tracer (not in the UK) , I love it! And we have people from all walks of life with all different levels of experience
