Would you book a holiday abroad for May 2022 not knowing when these restrictions will end?

I want to book a week away to Turkey for next year however with all that's going on I'm in two minds on whether to risk it or not. What are people on here planning on doing if they are in a similar position to me?

I have booked for June 2022 as need something to look forward to

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2021 11:44

I would be ok with that. This year then I would be more concerned.

Darklingthrush · 17/01/2021 11:46

I've never booked a holiday more than a month in advance so no.

LawnFever · 17/01/2021 11:48

Yeah I would, just make sure you’re covered in case you did have to cancel/change but I think most holiday companies are doing that now

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/01/2021 11:49

If we still have restrictions like this in May 2022 there will be no economy left. So yes, I'd think they will be going ahead next summer.

Mendeleyev · 17/01/2021 11:50

I think you should be ok. I think a lot of places are offering guarantees about being able to change dates etc so I’d probably check that out first. But surely it should be ok by then!?

Awarethebear · 17/01/2021 11:57

Thanks everyone I'm going to book it and just makesure it's got the guarantee attached to the contract just incase. I hope everything is back to normal by then aswell, it seems crazy to even be thinking it could possibly last that long but at the start of the first lockdown we had I never imagined we'd be sat in a 3rd lockdown the following year either.

Fingers crossed OP. Can you imagine? Getting on a plane, lying on a beach? Hope you will be doing just that!
Awarethebear · 17/01/2021 12:08

Thankyou I really hope so to it's been a long time since I've been abroad and it will be my children's first holiday abroad, Id love for them to experience a foreign holiday and a trip on an airplane they'll be so excited.

I had a holiday booked for June this year, I’ve just moved it back to June 2022. Hopefully we’ll be back to normal by then!!

HighSpecWhistle · 17/01/2021 12:12

Yes I would book for 2022.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 17/01/2021 12:14

yes i would we are hoping to go somewhere particular in August 2022 but have to wait till August this year to book it as its a once a year occasion so have to wait till this years event is over

Grapesoda7 · 17/01/2021 12:20

Yes I would. I'm looking at flights for 2022 and will book as soon as I can. This year I wouldn't book an overseas holiday.

peak2021 · 17/01/2021 13:06

Check the cancellation provisions.

Personally I would never go to Turkey whilst their current President is in office, but each to their own.

SummerBlondey · 17/01/2021 13:09

Yes. We're booked for Jamaica in November and NYC in December. Fully expect both to go ahead.

Orangebitters · 17/01/2021 18:41

This!

If we are still worrying about this in 2022, there will be no airlines or hotels left to use.

I think that's unlikely & that you will be fine. Book it & get excited about having something to look forward to! Enjoy!

0gfhty · 17/01/2021 21:14

Yes I definitely would if I had money to burn

cherrypie111 · 17/01/2021 21:18

No

I wouldn't book so far ahead considering how many times I've had to rebook and cancel past trips (7 have now been cancelled) I'm not willing to put myself through the stress again Sad

Khtchkn · 18/01/2021 00:20

What are you talking about 2022.. as if you think holidays will still be banned till then. The economy would be finished. We’ve booked package holiday for Greece in May this year. If it doesn’t go ahead we can either get a refund or change it to a later date, planning to go in September if so

Awarethebear · 20/01/2021 08:10

@peak2021 I didn't realise their was a problem with their president, is it dangerous there? Everything I've looked at online has said Turkey is a safe place to travel too, I'd like your input if you don't mind because I wouldn't want to take my children somewhere with potential dangers.

I wouldn’t book a holiday that far in advance even in normal times, so no for that reason. But with purely covid in mind, I would book so long as I knew it was either fully refundable or with a deposit I as prepared to lose.

@Khtchkn as ridiculous as it is, it really wouldn't surprise me. There was a scientist on the Last Leg on Friday who said (in a cheerful, upbeat way like it was fab news) she predicted all being well we would return to normal life this time next year. When everyone looked aghast she was like 'oh you know, I mean things like pubs opening, attending music concerts, flying'. I was about ready to March against the whole thing then
