To call my black dog Sooty?

DH says we can’t name our new puppy Sooty because he is black and people might get offended. Is that the case? Sorry for my ignorance.
Puppy gets microchipped by the breeder next week and I’d like to have named him by then. Any better ideas are gratefully received!

Call your dog “Kaanis, The Dark Eminence”

Teach it to heel by yelling “all hail Kaanis”

whereupon family members alongside you respond “all hail The Dark Eminence”

And when you put food in the bowl you announce “Now Kaanis will feast on the flesh of mortals”

whereupon anyone in the vicinity is compelled to respond “all hail The Dark Eminence”

This is how to live with a dog. Not all that furbaby guff.
