Negative test

Apologies for posting here but I have had no response in another thread so posting for traffic!
I have had symptoms now for about 5/6 days. These include literally not being able to move out of bed, total exhaustion, sleeping for 14 hours a day and more recently an annoying cough and sore throat.
My hubbie helped me do a test as I couldn’t do the throat bit (yuk) and at the time I remember saying to him I don’t think you swabbed for long enough. (Apologies for the boring bit of background)
So my results came in the post today and it was negative! I was shocked to be honest. I’m starting to feel much better and I really don’t want to get a test again at a test site as I know there are others that need them. I’m just curious to know if I had it or not.
So the question is is there anyone else out there who got a negative result whose convinced they had it. BTW the only reason I didn’t go to a test centre is that I literally was too weak to leave my bed.

If you didn't carried out the test as instructed you may have got a false negative. If you are upto it maybe book a test at a centre you can drive to. You do the test yourself whilst sitting in your car. Longer term you could have a blood test to see if you have the Covid antibodies. Hope you feel well soon.

I feel exactly the same as you. Was convinced my test would be positive. Had all the symptoms. been in bed all week. Got my results back and they're negative. I was honestly shocked as was my husband. I'm still not sure it was correct.

I wonder how accurate they actually are.

DinosaurDigestive · 15/01/2021 12:54

I was the exact same with the throat bit! I didn't think I had put it on both sides for long enough. My breathing wasn't good at all and had a cough and other symptoms. Including pains and aches all over body so had thought could possibly be flu but due to the breathing issues I was thinking more likely covid.

Mine came back negative as well but still took quite a while to feel better.

MatildaTheCat · 15/01/2021 12:59

My friend tested negative first time despite it being pretty obvious she had it. Got the positive test a bit later. Go back.

I know of someone who has mild symptoms but his partner has confirmed covid. First test negative (on day 5 after partners positive result), second test conducted 3 days later - positive (still no more than mild symptoms).
So I guess some bodies act differently and some tests aren't done thoroughly.
I would isolate as if you have covid and the same for your family.
Glad you are feeling better.
I would love it if all these similar posters put their blood group on afterwards.

This is going to sound a bit dramatic, but don't necessarily rule out other health problems. I know of someone who was recently admitted to hospital with severe breathing difficulties. She hadn't been feeling well for a while and assumed she had Covid as it presented a lot of the same symptoms: cough, difficulty breathing, flu like symptoms. Once admitted to hospital they did a covid test which came back negative.

More tests ensued and it appears she's got Legionnaire's Disease! Typically it comes from unclean air conditioning but in her case they traced it to her fabric face mask that she'd been wearing every time she went out, but hadn't washed it since last March! Envy

So sorry I’m only coming back now. Thank you all so much for your responses it’s good to know I’m not going mad! I actually had breakfast and lunch today and am drinking lots of juice and water.
Lo and behold I haven’t slept since I got up at 11am! Total result, fingers crossed all will continue to get better.
Lots of 💐💐💐I really appreciate your responses.

@TigerDrawers thats an urban myth .

unmarkedbythat · 16/01/2021 17:38

Maybe you have a different illness? Sounds horrible either way :(

It might not be covid. I had virtually identical symptoms a few years ago, I assume it was a flu. Bloody awful but thankfully passed reasonably quickly, hope yours does too, whatever it is!

Honestly didn't do it deliberately - sorry!

Message came to me via a colleague of my DP whose MIL is supposedly ill with it and is usually quite a reliable type.

Knuckles firmly rapped - apologies!
