What do you think? I’ve bee told by a teacher friend that primary aged children will be at school after February half term? I do hope so I feel so sorry for my children I just can’t give them what they need and feel like I am failing them
They are so sad and missing friends and routine

@TheHoneyBadger

The sudden rash of posters singing from the same hymn sheet is a dead giveaway. Also the Rita skeeter level of sensationalist turns of phrase.

Surprised they didn't descend sooner

Yes it’s getting easier and easier to spot and is very tiresome.

I feel exactly like you OP. I cannot wait for my kids to go back to school.I feel like I’m failing my kids too. But I know that they won’t be going back anytime soon. I don’t think this lockdown will end until spring or even summer. It’s driving me crazy. Just letting you know that other parents out there are feeling the same, your not alone! And the fact that you think your failing your kids is a more than likely a sign your doing your best, and sometimes that’s enough. Wishing you all the best OP.

I’ll share this, it looks like the current round of vaccines will prevent many deaths, but it will have negligible impact on cases. I heard from an ICU doc that they are full of 50 year old fat men (the elderly are largely palliated without ICU). They aren’t in the first wave to be vaccinated so there is only so much mixing that can happen before more of that demographic get it too. I reckon we’ll still have significant restrictions until summer. Hopefully by autumn we’ll all be vaccinated and there won’t be significant new strains. Some primaries or key year groups may go back after Feb but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are at home until Easter.

notanothertakeaway · 17/01/2021 17:10

My cousin is a teacher. She thinks schools won't open until end Feb at earliest. And even then, older pupils will be prioritised. I think it'll be after Easter for most pupils

Ceara · 17/01/2021 18:01

Yes, DH is in the 50ish fat bloke bracket. I'm not thrilled by the notion of sending DS back to primary school in Feb - particularly as it would really be our only exposure point so if DH gets it, DS will blame himself. I can't really imagine there will be any parental choice about whether to send them back once schools open to all pupils? It will be straight back to "schools are safe, attendance is imperative, fines will be enforced".

loulouljh · 17/01/2021 18:02

I blimmin well hope so...our kids are on the scrap heap currently..

Erictheavocado · 17/01/2021 18:12

I work in a primary school and pp's are correct, we find out what is happening when the government announces it. There has been no consultation with the people who actually have to carry out their instructions, just pages and pages of guidance, usually sent at really short notice.
We had a staff zoom meeting last week and our head has said that in their opinion, we need to plan to still be working like this until Easter.

Regarding caps on children, if we had everybody in who wants to come in, it would massively impact on the online provision and especially the live o line sessions we are offering.

Taikoo · 18/01/2021 10:14

Nope.
After Easter.

MiaMarshmallows · 18/01/2021 13:25

Lockdown said to be lifted gradually over March so am assuming schools will be a bit before and will open after half term

Buttercream22 · 18/01/2021 13:40

Another one for Easter.

CarlottaValdez · 18/01/2021 13:55

I think it’s possible looking at the numbers.

Malbals · 18/01/2021 16:33

Thanks everyone I spoke to another school teacher friend and she seemed to think Easter too, but who ever knows! it’ll probably be all last minute as usual.
I feel - just so sad about the whole situation, I can’t imagine , anyone is finding this easy , or enjoyable.

I love it when people say ‘nope’

So authoritative. I can picture them crossing their arms abd shaking their head.

Nope! Nope! Nope!

PyjamaFan · 18/01/2021 18:59

I also think Easter.

But we will find out on the news at the same time as the rest of the population. So very little time given for planning, etc.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/01/2021 13:08

God knows. I was in school yesterday and the year 10 kw and vulnerable group had become the 5 times bigger group of badly behaved kids whose mothers couldn't put up with them at home group making it thoroughly impossible for the kids who have to be there to focus and do their work.

At some point we have to do something about parents who refuse to parent and whose kids destroy education for everyone else.

Everyone is up in arms about missed school due to Covid when kids are losing massive amounts of education because of kids whose behaviour destroys learning for every single day but schools are forced to put up with. It took a week for the parents of those kids to decide they were entitled to school places despite not working let alone being kw.

Malbals · 21/01/2021 20:34

Yes ,probably will not have much notice whatever is decided!

LickEmbysmiling · 21/01/2021 21:11

Very good point re behaviour,I think some people would be astonished to witness the problems even one dc with behaviour issues can impact on a day's learning.

thisislovelyme · 21/01/2021 22:16

Two weeks notice will be given apparently. Which will be great if it happens. And the stats are heading the right way... ever the optimist here.

What will be great? Having two weeks notice? Confused

I see we are back to March where people are petrified for their own safety rather than societal risk. The risk to a non ECV person is minimal. Wear a mask, follow precautions and regulations to protect others but ffs the levels of hysteria on this thread and MN generally is absurd.

You can’t cherry pick an expert and hold their opinion as gospel either. I’m sure the maternity nurse who posted up thread is telling the truth and it is hell at the moment. I don’t doubt the scientists saying that shutting schools would help stop a % of spread. But you have to balance the whole big picture, at a societal level.

A family friend killed themselves this week, after their mental health deteriorated in lockdown. Just because you’re furloughed or in a secure job and enjoying the family time or general drama of all this, it doesn’t mean people aren’t suffering massively.

Not a chance in hell kids won’t go back before September. Those posting that are on the wind up.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/01/2021 08:13

We're not allowed to wear masks in classrooms.

Hth.

Really sorry for your loss but not sure how packing 1000+ kids into a small building via public transport would have helped that. Sorry but I genuinely don't understand

Rosebel · 22/01/2021 10:28

At the moment we don't know when things will get better. Boris won't give us a date for the end of lockdown. It could be end of February but think it's unlikely. It could be Easter but absolutely no guarantee.
I didn't think the secondary schools would be back this year but thought primary might be after Easter.
Unfortunately with cases and death rates so high I can't see any children going back next month.

LizFlowers · 22/01/2021 10:33

No.

Malbals · 22/01/2021 16:12

Yes agree, unfortunately I have heard about a lot of suicidal people and some attempts and some unfortunately successful, it’s so sad. I think more consideration should be given for people who are struggling mentally this will all no doubt push many over the edge. it’s devastating
