Society has had a massive collective shock this last year.
Loss of people
Loss of jobs
Loss of civil liberties.
There s also a heightened sense of people we ^should^ be holding in high regard:
Doctors, nurses, carers, delivery drivers, supermarket workers, teachers, police, the forces, refuse collectors...... the list could go on and on.
So I hope there s a reset of who we do and dont value in future.
Some of the z listers are just ordinary people who have done nothing extraordinary, except maybe go on a reality show or two.
And yet we feed into the business of making them richer.
My DD (15) and her friends are more likely to follow Greta Thunberg than Kim Kardashiion. And that's a good thing.
I think a shift is on the way.
I think our next generation of adults will be a bit more discerning than we are.

I hope so. Its really pissed me off recently how many 'influencers' (that I dont even follow) holiday photos are popping up on my Instagram explore page. They dont seem to have any inkling of how distasteful it is to post photos of them living it up abroad while the entire country is stuck in lockdown. And yet Instagram is promoting their content so they are benefiting from it. Makes me cross, wish there was a way to throw them all away.

oh pish and tish, I hope we're seeing the end of disaster capitalism, bent cronyism, lowest common denominator tabloid soundbite politics and low security hand to mouth living. I don't give a fuck about the kardashians, and I don't give a fuck whether other people do or don't. But to look at everything that's happened and decide that people dicking about on instagram is The Real Problem, that's a special kind of blinkered. The people who've profited and got rich off the back of this pandemic that really deserve to fall off their perches are all the greedy tory bastards with their hands in the till fucking up PPE, track and trace, school meals and every bloody thing else they touch.

I don't know but I really do hope so. It was and is a huge problem for the next generation, especially girls I think. This idea that you have to look identikit, have surgery, contoured make-up, big lips to be successful and to garner likes on Instagram. Look how much money the Kardashians have made and they don't even look like themselves due to the amount of surgery they've had.

I really hope that things simmer down and the jobs that you mentioned in your OP are seen as being more.worthy again.

I hope you are right.

Sadly 2008 was also a massive shock and many people spoke of the need for change then, a better way of living that worked within the environment, undid the worst aspects of the recent - at that time, more so - frenetically increased pace of globalisation and the growing disenfranchisement of those of us who were then still considered young and all the rest of it.

I wonder how many remember that? Instead the throttle hit the metal faster than ever.

I think this might be our last warning though. Either we get change willingly, or it will be forced on us by socioeconomic collapse caused by all of the above factors. We do not have much time left.
