I have appreciated these threads, all of those who take the time to explain US political processes/history/mindset etc. My lack/ignorance of knowledge is being helped to improve.
I can’t present arguments as well as others here. All I know is, I feel really bloody sad after watching the last 3 hours. After what happened, when they were ALL there in the building, after seeing Trumps’s address beforehand, his video (way too late) from the Rose Garden) and his video address a day later - HOW on earth could some of those arguments have been put forward? The minimising, whataboutery, racial bias (not from all), all of it - was just unbelievable. The level of “let’s reach out in peace for the good of the country” (paraphrasing, but, you know ...) was disgusting. Basically, yeah, we’ll improve if you drop this. That is my incredibly simplistic take on it.
It’s VERY easy to “pass comment” on another country when you’re looking from the outside. But to all those in the USA who have taken the time to explain processes, history, basis of ingrained education etc etc. This must be so hard. A difficult election process, the whole Covid shitshow and. 2 months of growing tension between result and inauguration. I’m just hoping that things start to improve and that, eventually, Trump can be left in the rear view mirror.
