My understanding is that it now goes to the senate ThatIsNotMyUsername where evidence is presented and they do the whole thing again.

However, it needs 2/3rds majority. Even with 10 Republicans, today is nowhere near that. They need 17 republican senators.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/01/2021 21:28

Trump has achieved something. First POTUS to be impeached twice.

Way to go Donald.

TurquoiseBaubles · 13/01/2021 21:29

Only 5% of Republican members of the House have guts. That's a bit sad.

littlebillie · 13/01/2021 21:29

So what happens next, is he still president?

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 13/01/2021 21:29

Well he always has to be the biggest, bestest at everything doesn’t he?

God help his staff.

DuncinToffee · 13/01/2021 21:30

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

What does it mean practically though?
His trial will start in the Senate in the coming days
JamieLeesCurtains · 13/01/2021 21:30

Yup, 17 Rep senators needed next. Mitch must be loving the power.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/01/2021 21:30

I'm watching CNN on an app though, so I may be on a bit of delay.

I show 207 for, with 9 being GOP votes

CaveMum · 13/01/2021 21:31

Isn’t there still a suggestion that they will hold off on sending it to the Senate for trial until after 20th, so that the Dems have a majority? There’s also concern that it could be used to hold up Biden’s Cabinet appointments.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/01/2021 21:32

Is the trial evidence base or "statement based"?

Or more what i mean is it more like a legal thing or political waffling thing?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/01/2021 21:32

231 v 297 with 5 to vote

AcrossthePond55 · 13/01/2021 21:32

Yep, just went to TV. It is DONE!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/01/2021 21:33

231 v 197

bungleZippy12 · 13/01/2021 21:33

WHOOOOOOOO!!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/01/2021 21:33

10 GOP

PatriciaHolm · 13/01/2021 21:34

McConnell has said he won't recall the Senate for it, so nothing will even start until 19th, so this will drag into Biden's presidency. It changes nothing for the next week, unfortunately.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 13/01/2021 21:34

Any I always used to think that US politics was a bit boring and that Italian politics was the most entertaining...

minou123 · 13/01/2021 21:34

Nancy is about to speak.

Coquohvan · 13/01/2021 21:35

It’s a pity Trump isn’t younger as he’s got to live with this for the rest of his life.

Gingaaarghpussy · 13/01/2021 21:35

How many past impeached presidents in the past, have been republican?

Roussette · 13/01/2021 21:36

10!
That's excellent.

“Well bugger me, here we are again... how did that slippery wee shite wriggle off the hook the first time I’ll never know... I’ve only got one thing to say to the ‘no’ voters... give your head a wobble for gods sake, what are you thinking?”

AcrossthePond55 · 13/01/2021 21:37

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

Hopefully with the (second) impeachment going through he won’t be allowed to pardon anyone.
The pardon power is absolute. There is no oversight.
JamieLeesCurtains · 13/01/2021 21:37

Is that 4 Rep abstentions or absences??

197 is a shit number for Trump.
