Dh is in the forces and has been given the chance of a posting in either Canada or Cyprus (house is included and would be payed extra whilst over there)
Our children are currently 9/7/4
It's once in a lifetime opportunity but on the other hand I worry about the kids education. DH thinks we should go for it whilst the children are still primary age. Of course it's a decision only myself an my DH can make but just wondering what other people's views are?

We live abroad and haven't regretted it for a minute, even in the current climate. Education isn't just about what is taught in schools, it's life lessons, experiences of different cultures and environments. Children will gain a greater confidence as they will be forced into new situations and deal with them accordingly. I would never turn down the opportunity to live abroad - it's truly wonderful.

I have no kids, but I know people who have lived/live in Calgary and Cyprus.
Cyprus was a short term posting with primary school kids and they loved it. School was enough for them not to fall behind and the beach lifestyle was fantastic. Came home into a pandemic though so probably falling behind now.
A few people I know moved to Calgary initially, visas can be got more easily for some provinces, and then moved when visa allowed. Toronto mostly.
Calgary just too cold and too spread out. Very little public transport so driving a necessity and cold weather driving is a hard skill to master under pressure.
One friend has stayed there and loves it, but she is childless and outdoorsy.
Communication with home can be difficult from Calgary also due to the time difference. It sounds silly in the days of WhatsApp but having small windows of time to call when everyone's awake is logistically hard.
So I vote for Cyprus, I wouldn't worry too much about secondary school friendships for your DS as mostly they change in the first term even if whole classes go from primary to secondary together.
