cherry I liked Gordon but heard some horror stories about him from colleagues. David Cameron was alright to his staff, Samantha quite normal (bringing baby into office for the women to have a cuddle).

I live next door to a very famous retired politician, still beloved of the people. He is obsessed with Smints. We are not in the UK so this probably isn't of interest to anyone!

tobee · 10/01/2021 02:26

@OllyBJolly

I was at university with Liam *@smellywellies9* .He is very charming and affable but no morals whatsoever!

He won’t be allowed to be Prime Minister!

Although this hasn't been an issue for Boris Johnson.

Notsure2020 · 10/01/2021 02:50

I'm quite closely related to an ex prime minister.

He's a twat.

24HoursInPoliceCustody · 10/01/2021 02:55

Met Michael Fallon who was Minister of Defence, extremely nice man considering I hate the Tory party!

Grenlei · 10/01/2021 03:10

I met Tony Benn once who was wonderful. Very polite, very intelligent and gave the impression of not suffering fools gladly.

I knew several people at university who are closely connected to this govt or previous ones, including one MP, senior civil servants, spin doctors etc. Both sides of the fence. Some were ok, some not ( in particular one of the Labour ones who was an arrogant arsehole then and apparently still is!)

Hawkins001 · 10/01/2021 03:20

Not any members from direct government, mine is various intelligence services personal.

geoffreyjellineck · 10/01/2021 04:17

My sister used to work in the Houses of Parliament, so worked with and knew a lot of different politicians. Her favourites were Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and one MP who isn't well known so I won't mention. I met Gordon Brown, on a few occasions, and he was lovely, and yes she was a bigoted woman!

LemonDrizzles · 10/01/2021 04:28

Met sadiq khan. Someone close to me knows what gove and Chris witty are like as housemates...

Are they now in therapy?
torquewench · 10/01/2021 04:48

A former (early 90s) Labour MP. Arrogant twat. Thought he was too important to queue in any of the local shops and always barged his way straight to the front. I told him to wait his turn in a drycleaners once and his lip literally curled.

gerispringer · 10/01/2021 04:58

One of my neighbours was in 6th form with D Cummings. She says he was a weirdo who refused to join in with anything.

LunaNorth · 10/01/2021 05:05

@SquirtleSquad

I've slept with one senior politician. I was ashamed of it pre 2020 and now when he pops up on the news or the updates it makes my vagina want a chemical peel.
Updates?

So...Rishi? Matt Hancock? Not...BJ??

G’wan...

snoin · 10/01/2021 05:30

Nicola Sturgeon -- really down to earth and was brilliant to deal with. I was organising an event she attended (as First Minister). After the event ended, she spent the time to talk with everyone and was incredibly kind to me. Other Scottish party leaders at the time were at the same event. Ruth Davidson was rude and arrogant.

Gordon Brown was also incredibly decent when I met him. Although my politics are different to his, I got the impression he was a decent person who cared about the things he believed in.

lemonsquashie · 10/01/2021 07:13

@AgeLikeWine

I haven’t met any of the current government, although I met Nicky Morgan a couple of times when she was my MP.

Back in the 90s, however, I was a Labour activist in a very important marginal seat in Derbyshire. I met most of the senior New Labour people, including John Prescott, David Blunkett, Margaret Beckett and on one occasion Tony & Cherie Blair. At the time, Tony knew he was about to become PM, and behaved accordingly. He was more confident and way more charismatic than anyone I have ever met, before or since. Cherie was also hugely impressive, and obviously extremely bright. She was also very attractive in person.

I met the Blairs back when they were in residence at no 10. Agree with everything you say about them
notafanoftheman · 10/01/2021 07:54

I have heard unflattering accounts of Priti Patel from a woman who worked closely with her.

LakieLady · 10/01/2021 07:57

No, because I don't knowingly socialise with Tories.

peak2021 · 10/01/2021 08:00

I haven't. Though I have met all the leaders of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party at some point, including the ginger cat who was joint leader before his sad death.

joystir59 · 10/01/2021 08:01

My friends friend went out with George Osborne

joystir59 · 10/01/2021 08:08

Going back a while but I knew a bloke who met Norman Tebbit. Said he wasn't as nice as he looked
Well he looked pretty grim

Basecamp65 · 10/01/2021 08:30

Not this government but I used to work near where Boris lived before he was mayor and met him many times in local shops.

I used to work for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister during John Prescott's time and met him on many occasions.

I chatted to multiple MP's throughout my working - the last meeting I had before the first lockdown was at the Houses of Parliament where Micheal Gove spoke and I talked to him afterwards before he rushed off to deal with Covid.

Loads of people me politicians in their work. And i knew our local MP a few years back as a few years before we had our tattoos done at the same time and we became friends

Camomila · 10/01/2021 09:09

Liz Truss came to speak to us at uni once. Met her again at the DofE (uni trip).

I used to serve the old Brighton Labour MP regularly at the coop when I was a teenager.

One of DHs uni mates is a local councillor who stood in the last election (came close 2nd).

Ratched · 10/01/2021 09:18

Tony Benn bought me breakfast on a train journey many moons ago.
We chatted about life in general for a good hour or so and he was lovely.

Ilovelblue · 10/01/2021 09:30

Tim Farron's grandmother used to live across the road from me and I remember him visiting on many occasions as a young boy. I bumped into him (I'm not in his constituency) when he was still leader of the Lib Dems and we chatted about his father and grandmother. He was very down to earth, just as he seems when interviewed on television.

Agirlnamedsam · 10/01/2021 09:32

Years ago Donald Dewar came to my house for an interview. I was doing my higher modern studies and decided to contact him to ask a few questions: so one Thursday evening he came to my house to answer them. He was a lovely man
