And once I sent a Facebook message to Angela Rayner and she replied! I’ve twice heard her speak at conferences, and also twice heard Steve Webb, and I asked him a question!

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 09/01/2021 23:47

*their families

Goldieloxx · 09/01/2021 23:50

I've worked for two of those listed, both were as awful as you'd imagine any of them to be

avocadoinasidecar · 09/01/2021 23:50

A member of my family is an MP for a political party that none of us support, including her own parents. We don't keep in touch.

Anon123anon456 · 09/01/2021 23:55

Have known Alex Salmond for years and years, friend of my parents - very kind, funny, warm, friendly and very passionate about Scotland .

Have met Nicola Sturgeon - years ago - in Morrison’s cafe, she was sat opposite me . Was eating a bacon sandwich from memory !! Very friendly and ‘normal’ .

Have also met many of Scottish Parliament circa 2008/9 ish via voluntary work . Most were very polite to teenage me !

Yohoheaveho · 09/01/2021 23:56

But, because they were very well spoken, often courteous, generally intelligent, at least academically, they got away with a hell of a lot
Ain't that the truth🤔😶

Artesia · 09/01/2021 23:56

I used to work with Chuka Umunna. Perfectly pleasant and quite charming, but not particularly impressive on the work front and absolutely fancied himself.

Shamoo · 10/01/2021 00:06

I live next door to my MP (Lib Dem). Lovely neighbour! We are in a WhatsApp group together so we got to congratulate them at the GE, which was quite cool!

dottiedaisee · 10/01/2021 00:07

Andrea Ledsome was my friends girlfriend at Warwick University. I spent lots of time with her getting very pissed ...have lots of old pics of her. I cannot relate to the Andrea now...she is absolutely not the same person now.

OllyBJolly · 10/01/2021 00:22

I was at university with Liam @smellywellies9 .He is very charming and affable but no morals whatsoever!

He won’t be allowed to be Prime Minister!

SwedishEdith · 10/01/2021 00:30

Do @ConfusedAtChristmasTier4 and@dottiedaisee know the same Andrea Leadsom contact?

FeelTheRush · 10/01/2021 00:52

Possibly outing myself but Anneliese Dodds was my class teacher at university (she was doing her PhD at the time and I was an undergraduate) - she was lovely, really cared about her students and very hard working.

SatishTheCat · 10/01/2021 00:54

I have not met the current crop of politicians in person, but the Majors are really nice. I found them to be kind and genuine.

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 10/01/2021 01:01

I went to school with George Eustice. Perfectly ordinary seeming guy, no indication of where he'd end up, we all thought he'd take over the family farm.

BGRKE · 10/01/2021 01:04

I worked as a nanny for a cabinet minister some years ago. Nice children The minister was ok too, their spouse was a arrogant bully

VanGoghsDog · 10/01/2021 01:06

My brother in law was a minister under Blair. I knew other ministers at the time through him, including one secretary of state.

I met Blair, Brown and I once danced with Peter Mandelson.

Ken Livingstone was a family friend. Years ago Tony Benn, and Hilary, came to my parents' house (about forty years ago). I also met Dennis Healy around then.

Sajid Javid is my friend's brother in law, I met him about thirty four years ago but I don't remember him!

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 10/01/2021 01:18

My FIL was quite high up in the Labour party in the 80s and 90s. Long before I knew him, he's retired now. He didn't get on with Tony Blair, nothing in common with him. FIL is old school Labour.

He's not told me much gossip worthy of this thread, but the one that sticks out is that student there is something very magnetic about Edwina Currie in person. Which explains a lot!

I expect your fil knew my parents!
Scarby9 · 10/01/2021 01:32

I have also met Justine Greening and can confirm that I also found her lovely.

CherryRipe1 · 10/01/2021 01:38

My friend had dealings with Jeremy Corbyn whilst in local politics, said he was generally ok but a tad sly & two-faced. Friend's ex g/f worked for Gordon Brown & he is allegedly a right primadonna & regularly smashed phones up in a temper.

Binkybix · 10/01/2021 01:44

Many of my friends have been private secretaries and press secretaries to secretarys of state and PMs from new Labour days onwards. Many tales to tell but as am still in the biz I don’t feel I can.

Concur with the Priti views, however! That’s too common to be outing 😂

mayandjuniper · 10/01/2021 01:51

Yes, I've known a 90s cabinet minister (during the time they were in the job- now a back bencher but not seen them in years) and a party leader (opposition party). Both decent people- good dads; their wives lovely; modest home; bit up their own arse but always nice enough and made an effort with friends. Did seem to genuinely want to do a good job.

allthewaterinthetap · 10/01/2021 01:56

I have encountered Dominic Raab. He is very fond of Dominic Raab.

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 01:59

I've slept with one senior politician. I was ashamed of it pre 2020 and now when he pops up on the news or the updates it makes my vagina want a chemical peel.

TartanDMs · 10/01/2021 02:05

I have worked with several high profile ministers over the last 12 years and got to know some better than others. Ed Balls was a pleasure to work with. Michael Gove is very charming, has beautiful manners and remembers details about you even if you only meet him a few times - it's extraordinary. Pity he's who he is. Nicky Morgan and Justine Greening were very easy to work with, in the remit I had. I developed a grudging respect for Lord Agnew, he could be a twat but you always know where you stand and although I didn't appreciate being phoned for a personal bollocking over something that wasn't my fault, he was very gracious in his subsequent apology.
