My parents got to know John and Norma Major last year on holiday and really liked both of them; John Major was very interesting apparently (which surprised them both!)

@Elsielouise13

My DD was at University with Nicky Morgan. He says she was earnest and joined in lots of things.
I agree, Nicky took her role as a constituency MP seriously, and even when she was in the cabinet she was always very visible in the area. I saw her in Waitrose several times. She was the opposite of the sort of MP you only see once every five years with a rosette pinned to their chest.

I still never voted for her, though...

akerman · 09/01/2021 22:27

@Roussette

Yes. My MP. He's a complete twat
This made me laugh.
DifficultBloodyWoman · 09/01/2021 22:31

Zac Goldsmith. Met him through my work at the time and then again for constituency matters.

He was a pointless waste of space in both settings. Ineffectual and dangerously uninformed. So at least he is consistent.

LouiseTrees · 09/01/2021 22:32

My MIL and FIL knew Priti Patel. She is as many people describe.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 09/01/2021 22:35

My birth mother claims to have had an affair with her MP and says he was an animal in bed. I'm not saying who because it's the sort of bullshit lie she makes up and I quite like him from what I've seen of him on telly (neither he nor I am Tory fwiw).

PapsofJura · 09/01/2021 22:35

Slight thread derailment but a poster above mentioned the heavyweight Blair cabinet and it’s a sad state of affairs that I can still name more of them than the current cabinet and shadow cabinet combined.

rawlikesushi · 09/01/2021 22:37

Rishi and his parents. All lovely.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/01/2021 22:41

I've said this on here before, as I never miss an opportunity to slag her off, but I used to work with Priti Patel, ages ago.

She was awful. Lied to avoid having to do any work. Would jab a knife into anyone else, to avoid work, or avoid blame. Totally untrustworthy. Really didn't shine out at all.

I am baffled that she has risen so high. I can only conclude that all her thoughts and energy were directed to her political career.

Dee1975 · 09/01/2021 22:44

I’ve met Jacob Rees-mogg on a few occasions and I find him a really nice, decent down to earth man. I think he is very misunderstood and gets a lot of unnecessary criticism - he is an easy target for ‘anti Tory’ voters

smellywellies9 · 09/01/2021 22:44

My parents are friends with Liam Fox who is apparently very charming, down to earth and lovely. My Mum is convinced he will be Prime Minister one day.

Flibbitygibbit · 09/01/2021 22:46

Boris was at uni when my brother was.

akerman · 09/01/2021 22:48

I very much hope that Liam Fox will not be Prime Minister one day, however charming he may be.

Evalina · 09/01/2021 22:55

Jeremy Hunt - really very nice and genuinely concerned. I'm a constituent and also a whistleblower and he gave me good advice (don't work for the NHS).

peanutbutterbiscuits · 09/01/2021 22:57

I went to school with Samantha Cameron (not Cabinet I appreciate, but close). She is lovely, I remember her as quiet, and unassuming, with a calmness about her. She is also a natural blond. Her sister however was a different character entirely.

akerman · 09/01/2021 22:58

My friend was at university with Jacob Rees-Mogg. He wasn’t at all positive about him.

SenorFrog · 09/01/2021 23:01

I did a sport and went to uni with a senior politician in another country. She was very focused on always doing her best, she was mature and confident but lots of fun, very well put together. We're friends on Facebook, she is still very polished and driven.

friendlycat · 09/01/2021 23:01

Not current, but my late parents were good friends with John and Norma Major. They are both thoroughly nice people.

SheeshazAZ09 · 09/01/2021 23:06

Not current govt ppl but about a hundred years ago I met Peter Melchett who was a minister and Michael Meacher who was the only enviro minister we’ve ever had who actually cared about the environment. Both lovely people and great souls. What they would make of today’s shower, doesn’t bear thinking about. They were a different species from Boris and Co.

MissMarpleDarling · 09/01/2021 23:10

Annaleise Dodds is lovely. She works really hard I don't know how she fits it all in with children. Superstar lady.

AnEleanor · 09/01/2021 23:11

I met John Prescott when I was a waitress and he was unfailingly polite to everyone and very charismatic. Really held a room.

merrygoround51 · 09/01/2021 23:12

I lived close to Alastair Campbell who was a nice neighbour and I imagine very aware of his own magnatism

Glitterblue · 09/01/2021 23:14

Not the current government but I know Alan Beith who was the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats. He's lovely, a very caring man.

Mumofsend · 09/01/2021 23:14

Christopher Chope was my neighbour for 15 years. He is as awful as he seems.

thistimelastweek · 09/01/2021 23:15

Going back a while but I knew a bloke who met Norman Tebbit. Said he wasn't as nice as he looked.
