Sledging down street

I can't work out if I'm being grumpy or not with this one. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac which is on an incline. Every time it snows all the kids on the street spend the whole day sledging down the middle of the road. This worries me for a few reasons:

  1. It's dangerous for them - they come shooting out of the bottom of the road which intersects with a slightly busier street where they could get hit by a car if someone is passing and doesn't know they're there.
  2. It polishes the road up to be extremely slippy and dangerous for anyone needing to get their car out of the street in an emergency.
  3. They could hit one of the cars parked on the street and do some damage.

I do know that kids haven't got much in the way of fun in their lives at the minute, but AIBU to think they should find somewhere less dangerous to play?

were you never a child?
Your parents allowed you to play on the road as a child? That’s sad. With the amount of cars on the road nowadays, especially in snow it’s so irresponsible to put boredom over important road safety.

Darwin award by proxy, by the sounds of it. Sledging down a street straight on to a busy road.

stupid parents.

One of my neighbours looks have solved the problem. He's left his van abandoned, blocking the entire side street!

YANBU. I'm surprised so many people have said otherwise tbh.

It's not safe and I doubt many parents would be happy to foot the bill if their child skids and ends up damaging someone's car, or worse, ends up causing an accident.

Nothing wrong with kids sledging, but they need to go somewhere else! The street is not the place to do it.

@BonnieDundee

YANBU OP. For those who say OP is being grumpy, do you really think a street is a safe place for kids to be sledging?
We did. We did have a dtopper before busier road though. But we also had winter tyres on cars so yeah....

@EleventhNight

OP, it is a slightly inappropriate post. If you’re that worried GP or 111 or even google, but theres no reason you needed to post this on AIBU.
Eh?!

@DancingWithWillard

If it’s that bad go out before it’s light and grit the whole street, then deny all knowledge.
I recall as children back in the 50s parents used to sneak out with the ashes from the open fires and ruin our slides! We had to start all over again next day.
