If you're not a critical worker can I ask what do you do?

Curiosity really as I've just read the list of critical workers and other than entertainment industry and non essential retail I can't think of any other jobs that aren't on the list at all.

So if you're still working but don't class as a critical worker what do you do?
I'm a social worker so am, my Dp is with construction industry so doesn't although some of the jobs they've done do as the building when finished will be used in a critical role.

I'm a registrar - no working from home as offices are open, registering births, deaths and taking notices.

Chimeraforce · 10/01/2021 00:09

Not sure if I am. I run weekly payroll and do financial assessments for a L. A. wfh since March

My Ex literally takes staples out of paper ready to be scanned, yet he and all his colleagues are classed as key workers because Capita do government business. Shocking

WillYouDoTheFandango · 10/01/2021 01:36

Medical communications. Not critical but working on respiratory treatment training, publications and data presentations for HCPs and medicines approval boards.

Abikeofbees · 10/01/2021 01:45

Marketing manager for private company. DH is a landscape gardener. I WFH and he works outside by himself so is able to carry on at the mo.

Catty1720 · 10/01/2021 01:54

Not me but a lot of my neighbours in my block are in west end either actors or production/music/costume side of it.

@TheMShip

I'm a staff scientist, one of my major projects is on Covid right now. Technically a key worker, but certainly not critical and we don't qualify for a school place (Scotland, requires both parents to be key worker category 1/2, I'm category 3).
Do you work in a University or in the Pharmaceutical Industry? Supply of medicines is considered critical and in Enhland you'd get a school place on the days you can't WFH. I know things are different in Scotland though, DBro and his wife are key workers and qualified for school places in March but the school made it very clear they didn't want their kids in - it was a fucking disgrace TBH, the primary kids were treated so horribly that they decided it was better to keep them home and have their (young) teenager look after their siblings.

I'm in law. Clin neg. Not keyworker but no provision to work from home so having to commute in

Buddytheelf85 · 10/01/2021 08:52

Law. Some lawyers do count - those essential to the running of the justice system and those involved in executing wills. But I’d guess that 90% of solicitors don’t fall within that definition. I don’t. So it’s not actually about job titles per se - some solicitors, accountants and IT technicians etc are critical workers, some aren’t and it depends on the nature of their work.

Buddytheelf85 · 10/01/2021 08:54

@Macey78

Surely registrars are keyworkers - given the high number of deaths at the moment? I’m surprised they’re not. Solicitors who execute wills are keyworkers!

WeeDangerousSpike · 10/01/2021 08:54

Administrator for a charity that's largely closed due to lockdown.

The3Ls · 10/01/2021 09:30

I am NHS therapist. Still seeing patients face to face. Definitely key worker but not critical in the sense it says "job essential to covid response" luckily husband works from home anyway and kids older and we both felt safer at home so not asked for a place
