to be this pissed off about DH wiping my hands on my pyjamas

DH put a bit of sudocrem on his lip, as it was a bit cracked - possible cold sore starting? I asked him if we should think about getting him a covid test as he's been quite run down recently (and I am cautious because we are in minimal contact with my elderly mother) and he complained about my insinuation about him being run-down. I pointed out he has been complaining about how tired he is, his usually poor sense of smell seems worse than usual, he had a random nap this afternoon and it looks like he's getting a cold sore.

While we have a conversation about whether he is run-down or I am being overly anxious, HE PICKS UP MY PYJAMAS OFF OUR BED AND WIPES THE EXCESS SUDOCREM OFF HIS HANDS ONTO THEM.

AIBU for finding that completely disgusting? Unhygeinic and unsafe? Lockdown with young children for nearly a year has our marriage on the rocks enough, I keep trying to tell myself to be less critical and less arsey, then he does something like this and all I want to do is take my stuff, my bed, my body and my pyjamas and have them in a separate room away from him!

He has since apologised for wiping his hands on my pyjamas as he could tell he really pissed me off, but it's just the kind of thing he is CONSTANTLY DOING!!!!!!!

Is this just lockdown fever or is this really disgusting??? LTB or AIBU??!

Wtaf? Why would he use your pyjamas to wipe his hands? That's disgusting and it's disrespectful. Nothing to do with lockdown, he sounds like he's an uneducated arsehole where basic cleanliness and hygiene is concerned. YANBU and yes to LTB.

Nobody’s concerned about contaminating the baby’s butt?

AuditAngel · 09/01/2021 11:23

I would be most annoyed about this because Sudocrem bleaches fabric

You wouldn’t stick your contaminated finger back into the tub!

@minipie

Manchild sounds about right. It’s the kind of thing my 5 and 8 year old would do - and I’d be cross with them for doing it.

I am relieved to hear it was absent minded rather than deliberate - but still a bit shit that he hasn’t learned by now not to wipe his grubby mitts on whatever is closest!

Exactly this. I'm sorry OP. I fully understand where you're coming from.

I saw Les Denis admit on TV last night that when he cuts his toenails he saves the longest bits to pick his teeth with at a later date.

I so wish I didn't know that, but I thought I'd share anyway.

We have no choice but to grow and mature as a person when we have another living soul in our bodies to nurture and feed. Some partners and husbands seem to go on this journey with us and others seem to get left behind

Excellently put @disneybee

EarringsandLipstick · 09/01/2021 12:00

It's not like he is a terrible person, he's just a man child who might be ready for the next chapter in his life and possibly that means he needs to go it alone for a while?

Have you said this to him? Have you laid out how seriously upsetting his immaturity is, bad that you're not sure you want to be married to him and live with him any longer?

He may need to hear this clearly, as your story about your 3yo & the shoes & DH laughing at your words, indicates he still thinks he's lovable & funny.

That not bad

billy1966 · 09/01/2021 12:11

I think it must be very hard to staying in a marriage not to mind in love with men that are so lazy, disrespectful and just grubby.

You have my sympathy.

I am about to formally end a 20 year marriage to a man like this.
He appeared to be mature (was the one to push for kids) but actually had no intention of being mature, it was always all about him. He got much worse over the 20 years. I spent 10 of them trying, 6 of them 'resigned', 4 of them living apart, now I am divorcing.

I too was torn between trying to show my children that they could 'be themselves' at home and unconditional love would still be shown (both kids asd and suspect exH is too but that is not issue with him as he is also really nasty but that's a whole other thread)
and teaching them that it is okay to have boundaries and call time on something even as huge as a marriage with kids if it has gone 'bad'.

Oh god I need to hide this thread, I keep scrolling through the ones I’m on and get a reminder of that Les Dennis story! Grin
