I talk to my DD about nature all the time. She makes buzzing bee sounds a lot. I'm planning on talking to her about sex when it comes up (ie when she asks where babies come from) and have ready taught her the correct words for her various body parts.

Euphemisms help no one. Just say sex.

FourEyesGood · 08/01/2021 21:48

If you mean sex, I just answered any questions they had (without offering extra information), at whatever age they asked. When they were 8ish, I bought them a book they could look at and told them they could ask anything if they wanted.

I’ve never sat them down and had ‘the talk’.

My DC didn't really have an age, its been part of ongoing conversation(s) over the years. DH and I agreed early on that we would always answers their questions about such things in an honest, factual, and age appropriate way. As an example, my 3yo knows that she grew from a tiny egg inside my tummy and my 11yo knows the whole shebang, my other DC fall in between the two

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 08/01/2021 21:52

When they asked.

CarlottaValdez · 08/01/2021 21:53

Just answered questions as they came up. DS (6) has a reasonable understanding of how babies are conceived and born without us ever sitting down and making a big deal of it.

We had a trip to a farm and an interesting conversation about why some eggs are fertile and some not when he was about 4. This resulted in him saying to his dad that “if you hadn’t been allowed in this house with mummy I would not have been born” which I suppose is technically correct.

StacySoloman · 08/01/2021 21:54

From 3ish, and they had a good understanding of how babies are made by about 6 or 7.

BarbiesWorld · 08/01/2021 21:55

Same as pp. DD (4) obviously doesn't know about sex but she's aware that she came from an egg inside me and that daddy had to put his seed in to make it into a baby. The plan is to just answer any questions that come up honestly and age appropriately.

Diverseduvet · 08/01/2021 21:56

Like other posters, I talked about it as part of life from dot. When they asked where babies came from etc I gave them the info they required in an age appropriate way. A sperm from the Male, which meets an egg from the female is fine. When they ask how the sperm finds the egg you actually have to talk about sex, ugg🤣

As soon as there was a new baby on the way, we answered all the questions truthfully. We lived in the country and raised sheep and poultry to eat so the kids grew up witnessing mating, birth, death.

I answered questions in an age appropriate way as they came up.
