Light hearted but I’m still irked

DP & I have just been to buy steaks. I made the roast potatoes and veg to go with and he wanted to do the steak. I said I’d do them and he made a thing asking if I didn’t trust him to do it (I don’tWink) but said okay I trust you but please please do it med rare and not more.

So I sit back and he goes off to cook the steaks. Lo and behold, I cut into it and it’s well done! My lovely steak I was waiting for. He stormed off and I asked if he’d really stormed off and he said yes.

I’ve eaten my well done steak now Hmm and he’s apologised for acting childish, we’ll sit and watch a film now with a magnum and all will be forgotten but WIBU to refuse to let him cook the steak next time!? Even if he resists! I tell you.. this is LTB stuff Grin

Yeahbutnobutyeahbutno. That would annoy me too but it’s small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
Enjoy your magnum.

CrotchBurn · 08/01/2021 19:50

I would love that. I dont like meat to look alive.

emptyplinth · 08/01/2021 19:50

1 year ban from cooking steak. Grin

butterry · 08/01/2021 19:51

Does he know how to cook steak to medium rare? He's probably annoyed with himself that he messed it up!

Bloodybridget · 08/01/2021 19:52

YANBU! It's really disappointing when a steak is overcooked.

mbosnz · 08/01/2021 19:53

LOL, this for me, goes into the column of DH is now banned from making maccy cheese without supervision by me. On the other hand, I can't cook steak to save myself. Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses, and play to them.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 08/01/2021 19:53

I overcooked the last steak we had and I was raging at myself. I would have been even crosser if someone else had done it. Ruination.

Alwaysandforeverhere · 08/01/2021 19:53

Who cooks steak well done Shock even medium is over cooked. He need lessons but not I wouldn’t let him touch my steak again.

afromom · 08/01/2021 19:54

DP isn't allowed to cook steak in our house as he does the same. I've had one too many meals of salad, or vegetables with no meat, that we agreed he wouldn't cook steak for me any more.
I can't chew well done steak, so it's totally inedible.
He's also not allowed to choose my steak either, I'm very particular 😂

Normandy144 · 08/01/2021 19:54

I'm with you on that. In our house though it is the reverse as although I am a good cook DH is the steak king and in charge of cooking them. He does the perfect medium rare (more rare) steak!

AdditionalCharacter · 08/01/2021 19:54

DH cooked his own steak once...that was a great way to waste £8 of decent meat.

Timeforabiscuit · 08/01/2021 19:55

He can't be trusted, steak privileges removed, each gift for the next year should be steak related.

ShinyMe · 08/01/2021 19:55

What happened between you cutting into it and him storming off? I feel something is missing...

SugarMiceInTheRain · 08/01/2021 19:55

Yeah I'd be so disappointed. Cooking steak well done ruins it imo, medium rare is where it's at. Just give him another job to do next time you're doing steak, like drinks. Grin

Lemonyfuckit · 08/01/2021 19:57

YADNBU! I would be sooooo annoyed with an over cooked steak and now I also really really want steak.....

Hankunamatata · 08/01/2021 19:57

my husband only eats well done. I let him cook his and then chuck mine in

Wanderlust20 · 08/01/2021 19:57

I hate when steak is overcooked, so disappointing when you've been looking forward to it! I always tell my hubby when he overcooks it, and he never gets annoyed (only gets annoyed at himself as he loves it medium rare too!).

MinnieAnonyMouse · 08/01/2021 19:59

DH destroyed a pair of steaks a few weeks after we started going out. 8.5 years on, he's still banned

Dogscanteatonions · 08/01/2021 19:59

I once let my dp cook our steaks. I like mine rare - as does he. The cast iron griddle pan hadn't even been on the heat for a minute before he put them on it without seasoning them.

He's lucky he's still in the picture. Don't fuck with steak.

Panicking40609 · 08/01/2021 19:59

He was definitely annoyed at himself. He was putting gravy on his potatoes as I was just finishing peppercorn sauce and that’s when I cut my steak to see what it was like. He just walked away.

I want to feel bad for him, but he ruined a decent piece of meat Grin

SmidgenofaPigeon · 08/01/2021 20:01

I would never, ever, ever, let someone else do my steak.

DH and I have a hot stone plate, we put that on the table, and each of us cooks our steak to their liking. Him medium, me rare. It has probably saved our marriage.

ithinkyouareveryrude · 08/01/2021 20:20

Undercook his sausages; that'll learn him ;)

ThorFull · 08/01/2021 20:20

My DH spent years ruining meat.

He cooks with his eyes, not with a timer and likes everything to look charred.

We had some lovely steaks from ocado, he insisted on cooking them. Promised he’d do a good job. I told him a minute and a half on each side I think it was, they were quite thin. I was so disappointed when they were overdone, but it was my fault as I’d given him the timings.
A few hours later, still mourning the loss of a lovely steak, he admitted he didn’t think it looked cooked and gave it another minute on each side!

Oh I was so angry. It was lockdown 1 and I may have threatened divorce.

He’s never done it again.
And I bought him a meat thermometer so no more dried out roast chicken.

TableFlowerss · 08/01/2021 20:25

2 pans - you cook yours and he cooks his everyone’s happy 😃

Sobeyondthehills · 08/01/2021 20:29

DP does steaks in this house, I always overcook them, no matter how I do it, whether its on timer or by touch and sight.

Doesn't help he likes his practically mooing still
