Is it do a poo or have a poo?

What do you say?

I say neither because I never mention these things.

What is correct english language wise?
If you're doing a poo, you're doing something so that makes sense. Having a poo sounds like you're eating it.. But then we say 'have a shower' don't we? Not do a shower. I don't like when people say 'I'm going to get a shower' (is B&Q open)?

Sorry. I'm having a day off from life today and this just sprang into my head. Humour me please.

I take a dump and don't give a shit.

TurkeyTrot · 08/01/2021 15:19

whereas lots of folk would say "taking a shit" which sounds like it belongs to someone else...…

I'm working today and clearly not concentrating.

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 15:20

Take a dump! Where are you taking it?
Not heard that one!

Both are also verbs, to poo and to shower would also be fine. Not at the same time though obviously Envy

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 15:20

I'm off to take a shit.. .
Take a walk sounds wrong too. .

I think it is either do or going for...as in “I’m going for a poo” or I’m going to do a poo.

DollyPartonsBeard · 08/01/2021 15:22

My goddaughter says she's 'making a poo' which sounds all kinds of wrong 😬

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 15:22

Bluntness, yes. That makes the most sense to me verb wise.

dolly but quite correct I suppose!?

I have discussed this with my teen sons. Ds1 says it's doing a poo, Ds2 says you are pushing out a poo

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/01/2021 15:23

I think of it in the same way that I had a baby. I didn't do the baby.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/01/2021 15:23

I’d say have.
Have is pleasingly vague... you could have a cup of tea, and have a shower. Quite different activities.

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 15:25

ginandwine my stepson used to say 'curling off a log'!

Vitaminsss · 08/01/2021 15:26

“Need” sound better

Godimabitch · 08/01/2021 15:26

Have. Do a poo sounds weird. I have something to eat, have a shower, have a baby, have a poo.

Ebhc · 08/01/2021 15:28

Do. Have sounds like eating it 🤢

GettingAwayWithIt · 08/01/2021 15:28

Have, just like you have a wee.

ladymalfoy45 · 08/01/2021 15:30

Have.

Mamette · 08/01/2021 15:31

I don’t like “have a poo”, it sounds like you’ve chosen to “have” a poo and you’re going to faff around and be leisurely about it.

“Do a poo” sounds more efficient and utilitarian. Go in, do poo, wash hands, out.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 08/01/2021 15:37

I can't think of an occasion when I'd need to give that much information, TBH.
I'd probably just say I was going to the loo/toilet?

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 15:40

duvet it isnt a TAAT but inspired by what people say on threads really. 'If you're doing a poo do you stand up to wipe' I've seen recently. And a response to a question about loo anxiety ' I can have a poo with others in the house' etc.
I never give that much info either. I only say I'm going to the loo if I'm in the middle of something involving others (at work or in a pub etc)..

Norwayreally · 08/01/2021 15:48

I just say ‘I’m going to the toilet’. Don’t think I’ve ever said ‘I’m going for a shit’.

Boobahs · 08/01/2021 15:50

My brother used to say he was "going to drop the kids off at the pool" Confused

Otherpeoplesteens · 08/01/2021 15:54

When I was at boarding school, it was a social event:

"I'm going for a shit. You coming?"
