Is it do a poo or have a poo?

What do you say?

I say neither because I never mention these things.

What is correct english language wise?
If you're doing a poo, you're doing something so that makes sense. Having a poo sounds like you're eating it.. But then we say 'have a shower' don't we? Not do a shower. I don't like when people say 'I'm going to get a shower' (is B&Q open)?

Sorry. I'm having a day off from life today and this just sprang into my head. Humour me please.

otherpeople's my friend used to do that! Not at boarding school but when we were in our early teens. If me and others were at her house we used to pile into her small bathroom and talk to her while she was pooing! I found it bizarre and disgusting but I was a follower so I did it. 'Dogissue! I'm going to the toilet are you coming?!' Grin Hmm Confused

I think I prefer have, but either makes sense. Do is a bit toddlerish to my ears.

AndcalloffChristmas · 08/01/2021 16:01

I think “go to the loo” is better though as you don’t think about the poo automatically(unless you want to)

Whammyyammy · 08/01/2021 16:03

My husband says "dropping the kids off at the pool"....

peak2021 · 08/01/2021 16:07

One does not use either when one goes to the lavatory.

CallmeNessa · 08/01/2021 16:09

DS1 (16) says "take a sh*t". Confused

warmandtoasty2day · 08/01/2021 16:12

going to the loo, saying poo is so childish esp. when it's an adult referring to another adult !

littlepattilou · 08/01/2021 16:14

2 threads talking about poo on here this afternoon. Aren't we lucky? Wink

MylittleLovebug · 08/01/2021 16:17

I say I'm going for a poo. Which I am so it makes sense

BiBabbles · 08/01/2021 16:31

I'd say I'm going to the loo if I felt the need to say anything, I'd only say what I'm doing if there was an issue like stomach issues meaning I might be in there a while.

In my DD's Teams class (she's using a computer that uses the TV as a monitor so everything is very visible and she likes to talk me through what's going on sometimes for her own reasons), someone who declared he was going for a poo was told by the teacher to either use a more socially polite "comfort break" or to just go quickly without announcing it.

MagicSummer · 08/01/2021 16:36

I just cannot stand that word 'poo' - I can hardly type it! Why do people have to be specific about what they are doing in the bathroom? If I HAVE to announce I need to pass urine or open my bowels, I say 'I am going to the loo' - that's all!

Mittens030869 · 08/01/2021 16:38

I can’t imagine saying anything more than ‘I’m just going to the toilet’.

sbhydrogen · 08/01/2021 16:39

"I need to make poo"

Wanderlusto · 08/01/2021 16:42

'I'm away for a shit, hold the fort' lol.

For a poo.

grumpygiraffe · 08/01/2021 16:43

Are you writing a speech for a wedding? Haven’t all ceremonies been cancelled because of Covid? Whereabouts are you? etc

Juliepops05 · 08/01/2021 16:46

Do

GypsyLee · 08/01/2021 16:48

either.

NothingIcando · 08/01/2021 16:49

Have. Do a poo sounds weird. I have something to eat, have a shower, have a baby, have a poo

Yep. I agree.

Dogissue · 08/01/2021 19:00

WarmandToasty to the loo, saying poo is so childish esp. when it's an adult referring to another adult !

magicsummer I can't stand the word either!

Are you writing a speech for a wedding? Haven’t all ceremonies been cancelled because of Covid? Whereabouts are you? etc

grumpy I don't understand this, yet find it amusing at the same time!

No, I'm not...And I am in Yorkshire, if that helps :)

Do. To me, doing is like making. Having is like eating.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 08/01/2021 19:04

I think I say I need a poo or I am off for a man poo.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/01/2021 19:08

I say 'Poo has reached the top of my 'to do' list'... so I guess I 'do a poo'... or shit, its interchangeable here.

This is normally a result of being so bloody busy that I can sit here needing a wee or a shit for ages before I get chance to go and do it!

I do need to announce it at home as I have personal care needs now and might need assistance.

Himself announces it so I know he will be gone for about a week, with reading material, his phone, possibly a small camping stove, a meal, who knows what the hell he takes so long at up there...

In the days when no one needed to know, I just went off and did it and didn't say anything as there was no need.

Bourbonbiccy · 08/01/2021 19:11

When talking to our son., we say are you "going for a poo" and have you "had" a poo.

gottakeeponmovin · 08/01/2021 19:50

I think I say I'm going for a poo or having a poo never doing a poo
